Staff apathy ails Faridabad Civil Hospital
Bijendra Ahlawat
Tribune News Service

Faridabad, September 18
There seems to be hardly any improvement in the services offered by the Bhadshah Khan Civil Hospital here after the government revised the charges for the OPD and ward patients about two years ago.

Most of the patients have to depend on the services of private diagnostic and test (laboratories) centres that have mushroomed near the civil hospital, making a big hole in the pocket of the patients.

The Civil Hospital having a capacity of 200 beds is not only one of the oldest, but the biggest of the civil hospitals in the state. Hundreds of patients visit the OPD daily and many of them are admitted for further treatment. But the standard of facilities has not been up to the expectations.

Many of the patients and their attendants find their purses lighter after the end of the day, as the physicians and doctors attending on the patients normally ask the latter to visit certain private test laboratory and diagnostic centres for tests like ultrasound, C.T. Scan, and all kinds of tests including blood, urine and culture reports.

Although the hospital ought to provide such facilities inside. It is reported that the ‘doctors’ and other staff allegedly receive ‘commission’ for each patient sent to the private laboratories.

In one such case that surfaced recently, one Ajay Giri, a resident of a colony near border visited the hospital for treatment of his daughter (6 years) suffering from jaundice.

Mr Giri who thought, treatment at the Civil Hospital would be cheaper, found himself poorer by several hundred rupees.

He said that he had to pay about Rs 450 to a private laboratory located near the Civil Hospital for tests and the doctor in the hospital, whom he consulted had asked him to visit a particular laboratory for detailed tests.

He said he was shocked at the state of affairs prevailing at the Civil Hospital, which receives crores of rupees as grant from the state government.

Gurgaon boys defeat CRZ School in historic win
Our Correspondent

Sonepat, September 18
Gurgaon boys (under-17) registered a historic win over CRZ School, Sonepat, in the final of the Haryana state pre-Nehru Hockey Championship. On the concluded day here yesterday, the boys from Gurgaon maintained the winning lead despite repeated efforts of the fancied CRZ boys to win by a margin of 3-2. It was a remarkable feat considering the fact that CRZ School, Sonepat, had been the winner of this tournament for the last seventeen years. The boys from Jind bagged the third place by defeating Sirsa by 2-0. However, the CRZ School boys managed to win the final against the determined Sirsa boys through a penalty shootout in the under-15 category. Both the teams were at level (1-1) at the end of the schedule time. However, during the tie-breaker CRZ boys converted four penalty strokes against two by Sirsa to be declared the winner.

In the controversial final of the girls under-17 age category, played on Tuesday evening, the star studded team of Shri Guru Nanak Pritam Girls School, Shahbad, crushed Hissar by a huge margin of 11-0. Shahbad Markanad girls scored three goals in the first half and eight goals in the second.

However, the final verdict was challenged by the Hissar girls alleging that a number of girls in the Shahbad Markanda team were above 17 years of age. Finally, however, a review committee gave its decision in the favour of Shahbad Markanda girls.
