Akshit chosen for Bhopal athletic meet

Chandigarh, September 9
Akshit Kohal, a student of ninth class of Vivek High School, Sector 38, here has been selected to represent the north zone, in the inter zone national junior athletic meet to be organised at Bhopal.

He will participate in long jump, high jump and 100 metre race. Earlier, he has been declared as the best athlete in both the CBSE athletic meet held in the Panjab University in long jump and the Chandigarh Open held at Sector 42 stadium in high jump last year. He also participated in the CBSE meet at Bhuvneshwar.

Karishma Sekhon, a student of eighth class has been awarded the scholarship as a sitar player, by the CCRT Centre for Cultural Resources and Training. Under this cultural talent search scholarship scheme, she will get a scholarship of about Rs 200 a month till she is 20 years old. This is awarded to students whose father’s income is less than Rs 3,000 a month or to children of musicians or students who are outstanding in their related field. Karishma has been awarded this scholarship for her outstanding performance. She was declared best sitarist at Chandigarh music competition (instrumental) in 2000. She learned the sitar at school from Veerinder Chopra and Mrs Thukral and practised it at home religiously.
