Air Force, N D Heroes earn full points

New Delhi, August 24
Indian Air Force (New Delhi) and New Delhi Heroes scored identical 3-0 wins in Group B preliminary league matches of the Delhi Soccer Association (DSA)-SAIL Senior Division Football League Championship at the Jawahralal Nehru Stadium on Sunday.

Indian Air Force, Palam and Youngmen Club moved into the finals of the A Division Super Six League at the Ambedkar Stadium. Both the teams qualified for the Senior Division next year.

Indian Air Force (New Delhi) grounded Buddhist Blue Stars 3-0 to raise their points tally to six from two matches while B B Stars have not yet opened their account.

Danny gave a flying start to the Airmen when he found the mark in the 10th minute. But the second goal came after an anxious wait of 40 minutes when Sanat Kar struck home. E Thomas rounded off the tally in the 75th minute.

Earlier, New Delhi Heroes trounced Collegians Club 3-0.

Heroes now have six points from two games. Inside-left Gamilung Kemai opened the account for Heroes in the 15th minute while Mehtab Ahmed slotted in the second goal ten minutes later.

Nasiruddin scored the third goal at the fag end. Deepak Singh of Heroes was booked with the yellow card.

At the Ambedkar Stadium, Air Force, Palam beat Hans 3-0.

Striker Kalyan Pal drew first blood in the 25th minute while C H Feroz struck a brace, with the goals coming in the 36th and 60th minutes.

Air Force, Palam completed their engagements logging ten points from five matches while Hans have secured six points from four matches.

Later, Youngmen Club defeated Garhwal Heroes by a solitary goal to top the league table with 12 points from four matches. They play their last match against Royal Rangers on Monday. The match-winner was netted by inside-left Faiz Alam, off a cross from Suresh, in the 25th minute.

Monday’s fixture: Senior Division: City vs Tarun Sangha (2.30 pm); Mughals vs Shastri (4.30 pm)—Nehru Stadium. AA

Division: Royal Rangers vs Youngmen (3 pm); Abhab vs Hans (4.30 pm) — Ambedkar Stadium.

Sehrawat, Kambli help DAV to victory

A dashing knock of 43 by Lov Sehrawat and a deadly bowling spell of 4 for 21 by Danish Kambli enabled DAV School, Shalimarbagh defeat Government School, Vikaspuri by three wickets in a league match of the third Ramjas Inter-School Under-17 Cricket Tournament at the Ramjas Sports Complex ground. Sehrawat was named the man of the match.

Electing to bat, the Government school scored 117 all out in 26.1 overs, with Sanjay Sharma top-scoring (42). Danish (4 for 21),

Pawan Chauhan (2 for 29) and Abhishek Sakuja (2 for 3) bowled with venom to break the back of the Government School batting lineup.

In reply, DAV battled back from a precarious position, when they lost five wickets for 24 runs, to post 119 for 7, thanks to the swashbuckling batting displays of Lov Sehrawat and Jaladh Dua (30).

They added a valuable 54 runs for the sixth wicket to ensure victory for their team, though the penetrative bowling spells of Pradeep Sangwan (3 for 19) and Dharmender Pandey (2 for 20) put them in all sorts of trouble.

Scores: Govt School, Vikaspuri: 117 all out in 26.1 overs (Sanjay Sharma 42, Danish Kambli 4 for 21, Pawan Chouhan 2 for 29, Abhishek Sakuja 2 for 3). DAV School: 119 for 7 in 27.3 overs (Lov Sehrawat 43, Jaladh Dua 30, Vishu Tomar 19 n o, Pradeep Sangwan 3 for 19, Dharmender Pandey 2 for 20).

Nagar Palika School corner medals in Rajiv Marathon

Nagar Palika School, Tilak Marg cornered a bulk of the medals in the 10th Rajiv Gandhi Marathon Run, which was flagged off from the Ambedkar Stadium on Monday morning by Delhi Assembly Speaker Subhash Chopra.

Nagar Palika School made a clean sweep in the boys 6-10 age group through Mahipal, Umesh Kumar and Rajkumar. The races in the girls 10-14 age group was won by Nitupal while Laxmi took the third place. Yasmin annexed the title in the girls 6 to 10 age group while Suman took the third place.

The second positions in the girls 10-14 years age group and 6-10 years age group were won by Savita of Ranjit Nagar and a girl from the Rajouri Garden school. In the boys 10-14 years age group, Rahul Kaushik of Bharatmata Saraswati Bal Mandir, Bawana emerged the winner while Sanchit Sharma and Pradeep of New Police Lines Sarvodaya Vidyalaya filled the other positions.

Selection trials for cricket talent

New Delhi, August 24
Trials will be held to pick boys for the Ramakant Achrekar Cricket Foundation at the Central School ground, Sector 3, Rohini from August 26 to 29 between 4 and 7 pm. The foundation will begin the new session from September 1 at the DDA Sports Complex, Paschim Vihar, New Delhi and the Central School ground, Rohini.

Besides Achrekar, other well known coaches like Eknath Solkar will impart training at the cricket foundation.

The boys will be taught cricket techniques and physical fitness. Players in the under-17 age group will be admitted to the foundation coaching centres.
