Man gets 7-yr RI for robbery bid
Legal Correspondent

Ludhiana, August 24
The Additional Sessions Judge, Mr Sukhdarshan Singh Khaira, has sentenced Dinesh Chander of Sahnewal to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment for entering a house armed with a revolver to commit a robbery.

Delivering the verdict, Mr Khaira held that the prosecution had successfully proved the guilt of the accused. “I am not inclined to take a lenient view since the offence committed by him is of serious nature,” observed the judge, while declining the plea of leniency raised by the accused.

The accused has been sent to the local Central Jail.

An FIR was registered against the accused on October 22, 2002, on the statement of Rajneesh Aneja. The accused had broke into the house of Anejas’ in Kitchlu Nagar. But three women along with the complainant had foiled the day-light robbery bid.

Terming the prosecution case to be doubtful, the defence counsel had argued that the benefit of the doubt should be given to the accused and he be acquitted. But convinced with the arguments of the Additional Public Prosecutor, Mr N.D.Vashiht, and the statements of nine prosecution witnesses the court found him guilty and awarded the punishment.
