President to meet VCs to discuss the state of varsities

The vice-chancellors of all the 17 central universities have been invited by the President to the Rashtrapati Bhavan to discuss the state of their respective universities.

While officials claim that there is “no fixed agenda”, the meeting is likely to have the vice-chancellors apprise the President on the concerns plaguing the central universities.

The chancellors are expected to take up the issue of the appointment of visitors’ nominees who are required to give their assent to appointments in universities. While Delhi University is yet to receive the list of visitors’ nominees, which has been hampering the smooth functioning of many departments, Jawaharlal Nehru University after a protracted delay managed to get the nominees conduct interviews for the appointments.

Joining the heads of the universities in the special rendezvous on August 7, will be the Chairman of the UGC, Dr Arun Nigavekar and the Minister for Human Resources Development, Dr Murli Manohar Joshi.

SSI launches premium short-term courses

The SSI Education have announced the launch of two comprehensive short-term courses, ‘SmartStart’, an IT foundation course aimed at preparing individuals for successful IT careers, and TechPace a premier, short duration courses mapped to industry requirements and global certifications.

SmartStart provides an in-depth information of base technologies and enhances students’ knowledge of the core areas essential for software programming and usage. SmartStart is also aimed at those who want to gain knowledge of IT in an increasingly digital world.

At the end of this six months course, the student receives the certified professional in application programming certification. The course covers base technologies, such as Windows, Programming techniques, MS Office and high-end technologies like Database concepts, HTML and SQL Server.

TechPace series features various technologies, such as Microsoft Programs, Programming Series, .NET Technology and DBA, each of which comprises of further sub-modules. The course on Microsoft Programs includes modules on HTML, VB, SQL Server, Datawarehousing, ASP, and XML.

Under the Programming Series, students can select from C Series or Java Series –The C Series constitutes of Linux, C, C++, Advanced C ++, Datastructures, while the Java Series would educate on – Core Java, Advanced Java. The program on .NET Technology would include- ADO.NET, VB.NET, ASP.NET, XML. The program on DBA would include a comprehensive coverage of SQL DBA.

Shiv Khera’s success story

Internationally acclaimed educator and motivator, who gave the winning quote, “Winners don’t do different things, they do things differently”, Shiv Khera came calling on the students of Centre of International Business, Amity Business School.

Speaking to the students, Mr Khera said: “Success is not an accident. It is the result of our attitude and our attitude is a choice. Hence, success is a matter of choice and not chance”. Explaining the thin line between legality and ethicality, he motivated the students to build a corruption free and value headed India.

Author of the book, ‘You Can Win’, Mr Khera said, “To win you never put in 100 per cent, you have to put in 200 per cent. If you are willing to do a little more than what you are paid for, you have no competition, you are the competition!”

Referring to his famous quote he said, “My quote came as a counter to the statement that winning is not everything, it is the only thing. I believe that such statements give a distorted meaning to the word: killer instinct.”

The convocation of Centre for Management Association was held last week at the All India Management Association (AIMA). On the occasion, 1,262 diplomas and 12 fellowships were awarded to the graduating students.

Five gold medals were given to the students from PGD in management, PGD. In Information Technology and Management and Professional Diploma in Human Resources.

Delivering the convocation address, the L-G of the NCT of Delhi, Mr Vijai Kapoor exhorted students to uphold the values and ethics in their professional careers and said that the shrinking of management space in all sectors must be checked.

290 candidates received the PGD in Management, 224 students were given PGD in Information Technology and Management and professional diplomas were given to 748 students in Marketing Management, HRD, International Business, Financial management and Operations Management.

Courses on Banking and Insurance

Maharaja Surajmal Institute, Janakpuri, affiliated to the GGSIP University, has launched BBA in Banking and Insurance.

The course was inaugurated by the Registrar of the GGSIP University, Prof Nalin K. Shastree. Speaking on the occasion, he emphasised on virtues like character formation and value education. He also laid stress on the role of students in national integration.

Prof Shastree also pointed out that the scope and the opportunities in the banking and insurance sector and emphasised on imbibing customer responsive ethos in the budding managers.

6,972 candidates qualify for Civil Services

To make it to the Civil Services is a dream that is nurtured and nourished by many. And the realisation of the dream takes extensive toil and dedication confess the ones who have successfully cracked the examinations.

This year, a total of 6,972 candidates have cleared the first step, Preliminary Examination of the Civil Services conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

These successful candidates will now be eligible to appear in the Main Examination, scheduled to be held on October 17.

Which means back to the grind after a stint of jubilation.

Mr Roger Crittenden, Director of the National Film and Television School (NTFS), London, has been conferred the life membership of the International Film and Television Club, for his outstanding contribution to media education by Sandeep Marwah, Director, Asian Academy of Film and Television.

In a meeting between the two, it was expounded that the students of the film school should have access to the tools, which will provide them with necessary expertise to enter the film and television industry.

Mr Crittenden concurred with Mr Marwah that students gain key skills mainly through making films and that they should be given freedom by the school to make their products extraordinary.

The two directors explored the possibilities of exchanging their training material, faculty and students in the future. Mr Marwah had earlier visited the NFTS in London. The visit had been facilitated by the British High Commission.
