Timely detection must to cure arthritis

ARTHRITIS means the inflammation of a joint. It can occur at any age, but it affects older people the most. In osteoarthritis, due to the breakdown of joint cartilage, the patient feels severe pain, stiffness and swelling, in fingers, hands or knees. In rheumatoid arthritis, caused due to inflammation of the membrane lining a joint, the patient feels pain, stiffness and swelling in multiple joints; commonly in hands, wrists and feet. Movement of the joint becomes extremely painful, especially in cold, windy and damp weather. In Ayurveda, this ailment is caused due to the aggravation of vata (air) dosha and accumulation of ama(toxins). Ama get deposited in the weak areas of the body. Joints pain with a simultaneous aggravation of vata that is known as ama vata (arthritis). If this disease is not taken care of at the initial stage, the affected joint becomes immobile and may also become permanently deformed.

General remedies:

— Drink vegetables juices, soups and coconut water.

— Go for regular walk and physical exercise with your doctor’s advice.

— Take two teaspoons of lemon juice and a teaspoon of honey mixed in a cup of warm water twice daily.

— Take half teaspoon of turmeric powder with warm water twice a day for 40 days.

— Taking two raw cloves of garlic everyday is very beneficial. The cloves can be fried in castor oil.

— Mahayograja guggulu is very helpful in curing arthritis

— Ama must be digested and vata reduced in the body. Digestion should be improved and fasting for one day is beneficial in digesting ama.

— Massage of Mahanarain and Mahavishgarbha oil is effective.

— Control your weight.

— Avoid anxiety, fear, stress and grief.

— Avoid sleeping during the day and staying up late at night.

— Avoid spicy fried foods, potatoes, spinach, cauliflower, sweets, too much tea, coffee, alcohol, sugar and yogurt.

— Don’t take steroids and nicotine.

Govt to release salaries of health employees

Ludhiana, August 6
The state government has agreed to release the salaries of the staff members of the Para-Medical and Health Employees Union, Punjab. Mr Karnail Singh, the Convener of the union, today said talks were on between union leaders and senior officers over the issue for the past many days. The state Finance Health departments, have agreed to release the salaries of the non-paid employees since January, 2003.

A 50-member delegation of the health employees had met the officers concerned in this regard. “We briefed the officials about the problems being faced by our families. They gave a patient hearing and assured that salaries would soon be released, “ said Mr Karnail Singh. The delegation represented Amritsar, Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur, Sangrur, Patiala, Mansa, Ferozepore and Ropar districts.

Nankana Sahib school win

Ludhiana, August 6
Nankana Sahib Public School, Gill Road, and Government Senior Secondary School, Sangowal, registered comprehensive victories over their respective opponents, Everest Public School, Moti Nagar, and Government Senior Secondary School, Dhandari Khurd, on the third day of the Inter-Schools (Gill Zone) Cricket Championship (u-19) being played at the Sacred Heart Convent Senior Secondary School, Sarabha Nagar, here today.

Nankana Sahib Public School defeated Everest Public School by 69 runs while Government Senior Secondary School, Sangowal, overwhelmed Government School, Dhandari Khurd, by 62 runs.

Nankana Public School won the toss and decided to bat first. In their quota of 20 overs, they scored a challenging total of 189 runs after losing eight wickets. Rohit and Inderjit Singh batted well, contributing 33 runs each while the other notable scorer was Maninder who made 21 runs.

For Everest Public School, Karan and Amandeep were the most successful bowler, claiming four and two wickets, respectively.

In reply, Everest Public School could make 120 runs which included 29 extras. Chander Parkash, Souddin and Jaspreet scored 16, eight and six runs, respectively. For Nankana Sahib School, Rohit and Sarabpreet Singh shared the spoils grabbing two wickets each.

In the second match, Government School, Sangowal, batting first, hoisted a good total of 118 runs losing eight wickets in 15 overs. Lakhbir Singh scored 48 runs and Mandeep contributed seven runs. For Dhandari Khurd, Kirpal Singh and Avtar Singh took three and two wickets, each

Sangowal lads’ score proved to be a daunting task for Dhandari Khurd School batsmen who were shot out for 56 runs in 14.2 overs. Only, Vicky (12) could reach the double-figure mark, while Chetan and Jaspal made six runs each.

Sangowal’s Guljot grabbed four wickets and Davinder took two wickets as their team wrapped up the issue by 62 runs.

Softball meet: The final match of the Ludhiana District Inter-School Sotball Meet organised at Ramgarhia Senior Secondary School here today between RS Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, and Teja Singh Swatantar School proved to be a mismatch as the former came out triumphant unchallenged 12-0. Ramandeep, Ashu Joshi, Alka, Harman and Navdeep account for two points each while Amandeep Kaur and Ravinder Kaur contributed one point each.

Three teams took part in the meet and in the match held between Teja Singh Swatantar School and Hindu Putli Pathshala of Khanna, the later failed to match up with their superior opponents as they lost it tamely 1-15.

Kho-kho tourney: Thirty-five teams (boys and girls) from 16 schools have been invited to participate in the 12th Ludhiana Sahodaya Schools Complex Kho-Kho Tournament scheduled to be held here at Bharatiya Vidya Mandir School, Kitchlu Nagar.

According to Mr Gautam Gupta, Principal of the host school, the tournament will be inaugurated at 9 am tomorrow and the finals will be played on August 9 at 1 pm.
