House allotment rules amended Chandigarh, July 30 The amendment says: “When a government employee in occupation of a government residence dies while in service, accommodation may be allotted to his spouse, or a son or an unmarried daughter, already in government service.” Such members of the family of the deceased shall not be allotted accommodation of a type higher than the type already in occupation of the deceased, even though the applicant may be entitled to such higher type. The changes have been made as several families have been staying in government houses, even if none of them are in queue for government service. In certain cases, the families have been staying on for more than five years while employees who are in queue for accommodation have been waiting. Giving an example, an official said: “If an employee dies at the age of 57 and the families stay on for three years in the house, it is incorrect as the employee would have retired at 58 and would have vacated the accommodation.” |
