Seminar on challenges faced by Ayurveda in Rohtak on August 4

The Akhil Bharatiya Ayurvedic Maha Sammelan proposes to hold a seminar here on August 4 to debate upon the challenges and problems being faced by the ayurvedic system of medicine. The seminar, which will be held under the aegis of the Gaur Brahman Vidya Parcharni Sabha at Ayurveda College run by it at Brahmnvas, is likely to be attended by over 100 delegates from all over the country, the sabha president, Mr Hoshiar Singh Sharma, said.

Mr Sharma said that Dr Surinder Kumar Sharma, Advisor (Ayurveda) to the Government of India, would deliver the keynote address while the Vice-Chancellor of Maharshi Dayanand University, Maj Gen (Retd) Bhim Singh Suhag, would be the chief guest. Luminaries like Padma Vibhushan Brahspati Dev Triguna, former Advisor (Ayurveda) to the Government of India Shiv Kumar Mishra, president of the Central Council of Indian Medicines (CCIM) Ram Sharma and vice-president of the CCIM Shiv Kumar Sharma Chhangani are likely to participate in the proposed seminar.

Mr Sharma said that these luminaries would also examine patients at the OPD of Ayurveda College on that day and diagnose the diseases checking the pulses of the patients.

He disclosed that the Masoodpur gram panchayat in the Kalanaur block had resolved to donate six acres of shamlat land to the Gaur Brahman Vidya Parcharni Sabha for setting up an educational institute in the village. The sabha, he revealed, planned to set up a public school there.

Similarly, the Pehrawr gram panchayat was also in the process of transferring some land to the Gaur Brahman Vidya Parcharni Sabha for setting up an educational institute. After the completion of the process of transfer of the land, the sabha might set up a degree college there, he said.

The sabha also had plans to organise a Haryanvi sanskritak programme on August 2 on the campus of its Ayurveda College, Brahmanvas. A free medical camp would be organised there on August 2 and 3 by the faculty of the college, he said. Mr Sharma said that the sabha had submitted a project to the Union Ministry of Social Welfare and Empowerment for the sanction of Rs 1.30 crore for the construction of separate hostels for girl students and SC/ST students. The state government had already approved this project, he said.

He said that following the shifting of the bus stand to the new site opposite the district jail, the number of students in the degree college had declined from 1,075 to 600. He demanded the introduction of local bus services between the new and old bus stations.

Shastri Club annex Under-15 Cricket Trophy

Devastating bowling displays by Vipin Malhotra (3 for 20) and Sawan Saini (3 for 22) helped Lal Bahadur Shastri Club defeat Rohtak Road Gymkhana by six wickets and annexed the Madhu Vihar Under-15 Cricket Tournament Trophy on the DDA ground.

Rohtak Road Gymkhana, electing to bat, were bundled out for 92 for 9 in the allotted 35 overs, with only Rahul Yadav, who scored 36 runs, studded with three fours and as many sixes, standing upto the fierce bowling of Shastri Club.

In reply, Shastri Club knocked in the required runs for victory for the loss of four wickets in 20.1 overs.

Rahul Yadav of R R Gymkhana was adjudged the best batsman while Puneet Anand of the same club was given the best bowler award. Vipin Malhotra walked away with the man of the tournament award. Madhu Vihar Sports Club were adjudged the best talented team.

Scores: R R Gymkhana: 92 for 9 in 35 overs (Rahul Yadav 36, Vipin Malhotra 3 for 20, Sawan Saini 3 for 22). Lal Bahadur Shastri Club: 96 for 4 in 20.1 overs (Tarun Chaudhary 36, Yogesh Nagar 30 n o, Puneet Anand 3 for 16).

Under-19 cricket tournament at Gurgaon

Gurgaon, July 29
The District (Gurgaon) Cricket Association has decided to organise an under-19 cricket tournament, commencing from August 10. The secretary of the Association, Mr OP Taneja, said that 10 teams would be participating in the event. Only the teams from Gurgaon district will be allowed to take part.

The tournament will be held at the newly built Devi Lal Pavilion situated in the stadium being set up in Sector 38. According to Mr Taneja, matches of 30 overs each will be held till the quarter finals. Thereafter, in the semi-finals, each match would be of 35 overs.

Mr Taneja, who is also an office-bearer of Haryana Cricket Association, expressed the hope that Gurgaon would soon emerge as a cricketing centre. The District Cricket Association is taking all possible measures to popularise the game in Gurgaon, he said.

Amar Nath in need of financial help

Popular cricket scorer Amar Nath is bedridden with kidney failure and needs urgent medical attention. Amar Nath has issued an appeal to the cricket lovers of Delhi to come to his help in his hour of crisis.

Amar Nath was battling with failing eye sight, which became worse after an eye operation last year, when hid kidney also failed, shattering him completely.

Amar Nath, a former junior cricketer of Haryana, has been a regular fixture at the cricket venues of Delhi, particularly the Delhi and District Cricket Association(DDCA) at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground, for the past three decades.

He has made his mark both as an umpire and as a scorer. Amar Nath has been in the panel of scorers of the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the DDCA. But his total devotion to cricket did not earn him much financial rewards, and he used to always eke out a hands to mouth existence.

He needs urgent help from the sports lovers and administrators, as he is unable to cope up with the costly treatment for his kidney failure.

CRZ School wrestlers in World Junior Wrestling Championship

Six wrestlers of the CRZ School will lead the Indian Wrestling Team, which will take part in the World Junior Wrestling Championship commencing from August 22 at Turkey. According to a press note, the wrestlers selected are: Virender Khatri, Yashvir Gulia, Joginder Singh, Raj Kumar, Pawan Kumar and Khushhal. They are affiliated to the Sports Authority of India (SAI) which has set up a nursery in the CRZ Senior Secondary School here. All the selected wrestlers have left for Patiala to attend the training camp there. OSR

Khalsa Tennis Academy takes shape

Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce, which has been organising a popular cricket tournament, has turned its attention to tennis with the setting up of the Khalsa Tennis Academy at the college ground at Pitampura.

Modern School to host CBSE Tennis

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) North Zone Tennis Championship will be held at the Modern School courts, Barakhamba Road, from September 27 to October 1. The championship will be held in three age groups—under-14, under-16 and under-19—in the boys and girls section.

Organising secretary V K Baweja said schools from CBSE North Zone, who are interested to participate in the event, should send their entries to the Organising Secretary, Modern School, Barakhamba Road, New Delhi latest by August 14.
