The South-West district police today claimed to have rescued a kidnapped child from a hospital in Gurgaon. The alleged kidnapper had left the one-and-a-half-year-old child, Tanno, at the hospital while he negotiated with the parents for a ransom of Rs 22 lakh.

Breach in drain, village flooded
Rohtak, July 24
The Lakhan-Majra drain, which emanates from Dhanana village, has breached at Girawar village, flooding the residential localities. With a capacity of 271 cusecs, the Lakhan-Majra drain carries the rainwater of Nirana, Nandal, Lakhan-Majra, Kharenti, Girawar, Madina, Tekna and Lahli villages.

Flash floods, which inundated large areas of Khol and Bawal blocks of the district on Monday evening, have brought about large-scale destruction. The water has now mostly receded, but the villagers in the two blocks are still in a state of despair.

The Northern Railway has deputed a team of senior officials to conduct a probe into the breaking of a buffer joint of two compartments of the Amritsar-bound Shatabadi Express, which resulted in the killing of one passenger and injuring seven others at the railway station here on Tuesday.

A Kanwaria, Mukesh, a resident of Chinnoyat Colony in Rohtak, was knocked down by a Tata Sumo near Satsang Bhawan on the outskirts of Gohana town last night. He was immediately taken to the Gohana Civil Hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
