Health employees give memorandum to FM

Ludhiana, July 15
About 100-odd agitated employees of the district Health Department, who have not been paid their salaries for more than six months, presented a memorandum to the Finance Minister, Mr Lal Singh, here today.

The delegation was led by Mr Karnail Singh, Mr Didar Singh, Mr Harjinder Singh and Mr K.S. Garcha. The sore employees said despite various reminders, they were not paid a single penny by the department.

The employees who have not been paid come under the Planned Scheme of the Central Government. They said they had been regularly in touch with officials at Chandigarh who maintained that because of a procedural delay, their salaries could not be released.

Mr Harjinder Singh, an employee, said time and again they had been given assurances by the officials and bureaucrats that their salaries would soon be released and that they should not resort to any agitation, but nothing concrete had been done.

Hundreds of non-paid paramedical employees are working in the family planning, tuberculosis control and leprosy control projects of the Health Department. The members also demanded that their budget plan should be formulated by the state government instead of the Union Government. OC

MC staff go on demolition spree
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, July 15
It turned out to be a busy day for the staff of the building branch in Zone B of the municipal corporation here. A team of civic officials, headed by the Assistant Town Planner, Mr Nirmal Preet, Singh descended on four different places yesterday and pulled down several structures which were constructed in violation of the building by-laws.

It was officially stated that the MC squad demolished a basement in Sherpur Market which was allegedly being raised without an approved building plan. Due to a heavy police force accompanying the MC team, there was no resistance of any kind from the owners of the building. Thereafter, the MC squad bulldozed a makeshift structure in a park in Kidwai Nagar. A part of the park was under encroachment by a woman and the occupant had lost a civil suit after a prolonged litigation. The front portion of two shops on the Chandigarh road was also demolished for violation of a house line and encroachment on a part of the public road. The owners of the complex were told to scrupulously follow the building norms and approved plans and to alter the front portion of the building accordingly on demolition spree.
