Councillor alleges rise in cholera case
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, July 3
Arti Mehra, a BJP councillor, alleged that the North-West district was in the grip of cholera, which is on rise due to the shortage of potable water in the area. Around 500 cases have been reported so far. She alleged that water supplied by the Delhi Jal Board was not fit for drinking. She demanded that officials concerned should make proper arrangement for drinking water so as to protect the residents from the disease.

However, an official of the Health Department said that so far only 225 cases of cholera were reported in the North-West district. However, the official said that this is only the area in the Capital where cholera cases were reported.

He said that it would ‘not be controlled’ until the residents were supplied with safe drinking water.

He alleged the water supplied by the Jal Board was not fit for drinking. The corporation cannot help them out as the Jal Board is controlled by the Delhi Government, the official said.

End of cricket coaching at Rai marks the ‘end of career’ for some
Our Correspondent

Sonepat, July 3
Resentment prevails among those students of Motilal Nehru School of Sports, Rai, who have been adversely affected by the sudden withdrawal of cricket coaching facilities at the institute.

“Our careers have been ruined. Had the authorities notified this before our admissions, we would not have taken admission here. Our sole aim was to make a career in cricket,” said Kuldeep Khapra, who has played in Under-19 tournaments at the national level.

Nearly five dozen students of the Motilal Nehru School of Sports, Rai, who had taken admission here with the aim to use the cricket coaching facilities available in the school to make a career, are a disheartened lot.

“The decision of the government has ruined the careers of budding cricketers and my eight year hard labour has become useless now,” said Kuldeep Khapra, who is also the captain of the school team.

“Had the government announced its decision before the admission process, we would have preferred to take admission at Chandigarh or Delhi, where better cricket coaching facilities are provided,” he said.

Now, students affected by this decision are forced to “take part in other games” which are of no interest to them. They have no option but to join coaching for other sports such as basketball, swimming, gymnastics, athletics and hockey.
