A 16-year-old boy, Virender, was today admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital with symptoms of suspected cholera.
Clean overhead tanks in schools: Verma

All schools in the city have been asked to get overhead tanks cleaned in two days as water in storage tanks might have got contaminated during long vacation in the schools. The UT Administrator Justice O.P. Verma
(retd) today asked the Home Secretary to issue the required directions.

Trustee, kin among 3 held

The police here today arrested three persons for planning and executing the murder of Gurcharan Singh, Chairman, Institute of Engineering and Technology, Bhaddal. The three are B.S. Randhawa, one of the trustees of the college, his nephew Satvir Singh and Satvir’s friend, Rashpal.
Son of Verma’s driver in police net

The 20-year-old son of an
official driver of Justice O.P. Verma, the UT Administrator and
Punjab Governor, has landed in the police net for “selling”
a fake permission sticker for the use of black film on car
window and a red beacon light. The fake sticker was being sold
to a Panchkula-based youth, Atul Arora, for Rs 5,000.
Gurpreet, alias Garry, who was arrested by the Chandigarh police on Wednesday.

A promise unfulfilled

when my car (PB10Y 8442) was stolen from outside the school of my
wife in Phase V of SAS Nagar. Within half-an-hour of the theft,
messages were flashed to police control rooms of Punjab and
Chandigarh, and an FIR was lodged at Phase I police station.

Vehicle owners change address in insurance papers

‘‘Smart’’ vehicle owners in the city have devised novel ways to counter the move of the Chandigarh Administration and traffic police to change their addresses in the registration certificates (RCs) of the vehicles if they had moved from their previous residence. Instead of changing their address in the RCs, they are rather getting ‘duplicate’ copies of the insurance receipts with “changed address” after paying a meagre amount of Rs 50 only.
MOH finds
11 sweepers absent

With the fear of cholera looming large over the city, the Medical Officer Health (MOH) today started tightening the noose around the delinquent sweepers marking 11 of them absent from the duty at 6.30 am in Sectors 11, 15 and 17.
