Govt shy of fighting quackery: DMA

New Delhi
Holding the Delhi government responsible for not bringing in the anti-quackery bill during the current session, the Delhi Medical Association (DMA) yesterday strongly condemned the Sheila Dikshit government’s stand on the issue and said that the quacks posed a serious danger to poor patients.

Even though Mrs Dikshit had expressed fears about quacks at the annual conference of DMA, the government seemed to be shy of taking on the quacks, said the DMA president, Dr Anil Bansal. Deaths from heart attack and paralysis can be avoided only if treatment is started within 60-90 days. Can a quack diagnose the same, Dr Bansal demanded. Likewise, diseases like asthma and meningitis need to be studied in depth, and the quacks can never understand and treat such diseases. TNS
