Hockey club formed

Ludhiana, June 7
Noted sportspersons and sports organisers of the city held a meeting here yesterday under the chairmanship of Mr Shivtar Singh Bajwa, president, District Football Association, and formed the Kids Promoting Hockey Club.

The main objective of the club will be to spot talented hockey players (under 14 years ) from different schools and impart them training. Renowned hockey coaches would be engaged for the purpose, according to a press note issued here today by Mr Bajwa, president of the club. This club would work under the aegis of the district and state hockey associations.

During the meeting, the following office-bearers were unanimously elected: president — Mr Shivtar Singh Bajwa; senior vice- president—Mr Puran Singh; secretary—Prof Kanwaljit Singh; joint secretaries—Mr Manpreet Singh, Mr Iqbal Singh and Mr Avtar Singh; treasurer—Mr Gurpreet Singh; assistant secretary — Mr Bhupinder Singh; organising secretary—Mr Lakhwinder Singh; press secretary—Mr Tejdeep Singh Bhalla; executive committee members—Mr Johnson, Mr Balwant Singh, Mr Rajesh Attri, Mr Ramesh Chand, Mr Amrinder Singh Bajwa and Mr Gagandeep Singh.

Ambedkar cricket meet from June 25

Ludhiana, June 7
The third edition of the Dr B R Ambedkar Cricket Cup Tournament (day and night) will be conducted from June 25 to 28 here at the Daresi grounds. A decision in this regard was taken during a meeting of the local unit of the youth wing of the Dr B R Ambedkar Sports Board. The meeting was chaired by the board chairman, Mr Rakesh Ghai, according to Dr D P Khosla, chairman, Dr B R Ambedkar Sports Board, Punjab.

Sixteen teams will take part in this four-day tournament, to be organised on the knock- out basis. Each team will the allotted eight overs and the matches will be played with the tennis ball. The winners will receive a cash prize of Rs 7,100 and a trophy while the runners up will get a cash prize of Rs 3,100.
