PCCTU
flays hike in college fees Ludhiana, June 5 The astronomical hike will push the higher education beyond the reach of the common man and adversely affect the students belonging to poorer sections of society, said the union. PCCTU chief Prof S S Hundal said as a senator and syndic of Panjab University, he had always raised the issue of fee fund structure uniformity in the colleges of the state. A uniformity in the fee structure and funds should be ensured so as to put an end to the exploitation of students by private college managements, which were charging huge fees from students under various heads. He said the union welcomed the decision of the meeting of the principals held here and the syndicate sub committee’s decision announcing their opposition to the hike. |
Students
take lessons in kathak Ludhiana, June 5 The students, all above six years of age, have picked up quite a few steps during the past two days. The kathak workshop started on June 2 and will continue till June 14. Talking to Ludhiana Tribune, Gangani said,” Dance is a dynamic art, an expression of joy, which is a truly extraordinary experience in itself.” The girls’ shiny faces revealed the job that they were experiencing while pirouetting and clapping under the guidance of Monisha. The tabla was played by 13-year-old Mohit, who is the seventh
generation of performers from the Jaipur Gharana and a cousin of Gagani. Gagani kathak got its name from people who used to dance and enact “kathas.” the dance originated in temples, but during the Mughal rule, it moved out to courts and became more stylised. the uniqueness of the dance lies in the fact that it is the only classical dance which has imbibed the grace (nazakat) associated with the Muslim culture. Born in a family of hereditary dancers, Gangani is the torchbearer of the Jaipur School of Kathak. he said,” We are here in the summer heat to teach the students this beautiful dance, which is more spiritual in nature. It is our endeavour to keep our traditional dances alive in the hearts of the younger generation. Some students pick up very fast as they have learnt some steps earlier. Both Monisha and I can say with confidence that whatever we teach them will serve them for the lifetime.” Shivani, Pinky and Inderpreet were excited about learning from a maestro. “We are sure we will be able to give a performance on June 14.” Gangani has toured abroad extensively and has performed for Queen Elizabeth and in many Gulf countries. He is also an accomplished musician and plays tabla, harmonium, pakhawaj and is singer as well. He is associated with the National Institute of Dance, Kathak Kendra, New Delhi, and has won a number of awards. |
