Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, May 28
With just three city students clearing the pre-medical test (PMT) conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the result declared last evening on the Internet have been far from encouraging. Last year, at least 11 students from the city attained top positions in the same test.

Securing 41st rank is Brijesh Takkar from Sacred Heart Convent Senior Secondary School, Sarabha Nagar. The second student is Vikas Gupta from DAV Public School with 167th rank. Ramanjeet, another student from the school, has attained 1100th position. Jeevanjot Singh Randhawa, a student from Sacred Heart Convent Senior Secondary School, has his name in the waiting list.

At 41st position, Brijesh is sure of getting admission in Maulana Azad Medical College as he said that even though there were just 27 seats but the cut off rank for admission was usually 70. He holds his head high as he has also topped the entrance test for admission to MBBS in Banaras Hindu University, the results of which were also declared last evening. He has already cleared the written test for AFMC and received an interview call. For Brijesh, the top most priority will be doing MBBS from CMC, Vellore. Currently, he is busy preparing for entrance test to AIIMS scheduled on June 1 and Punjab PMT which will be conducted on June 29.

Brijesh had also cleared the second round of Olympiad in biology at the national level and will be moving to Mumbai from June 4 to June 10 for an orientation-cum-selection programme for an international camp. While in Class X, he had cleared the National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) and is drawing a scholarship of Rs 1700 per month.

Similarly, Vikas Gupta has also cleared entrance test to BHU with 39th rank. He has even cleared written test to Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, and he has received a call for interview. Vikas Gupta had also topped in his school with 90 per cent marks in the CBSE Plus two examination. He said that he was preparing for entrance tests to AIIMS and CMC, Ludhiana, and for Punjab PMT.

Through CBSE-PMT, Vikas said he was not sure of getting admission to Maulana Azad Medical College, his first preference, but he said he was optimistic of getting admission to King Edward Memorial College, Mumbai. He said that his father, who is a CA, was his real inspiration.

‘Posts of judge to be filled soon’
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, May 28
Mr Justice N.K. Sodhi of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, who is the Inspecting Judge for Ludhiana district, visited Jagraon courts today. When asked about the mandate, if any, issued to the state government for appointment of judges against existing vacancies, he said, “appointment will be done very soon, but very soon will also take some time.”

Mr Justice Sodhi inspected the court of Mr H.S. Grewal, Civil Judge (Junior Division), Jagraon. He also visited the Bar Room where Mr M.S. Sehgal, President of the Bar Association, welcomed him. Mr Sehgal apprised Mr Justice Sodhi about the working at the courts. He said everything was going well except for that earlier Jagraon had three courts, whereas now had only one court which was overburdened. He demanded that an Additional Civil Judge (Senior Division) should be appointed here immediately so that the workload could be shared.

When asked if the delay in deciding cases would ever end and whether the High Court had issued any mandate to the state government to fill vacancies, he said about the delay, the lawyers know better, but in the same breath, he said the shortage of judges was causing an irreparable loss to the litigants. He said they were well aware of the problems faced by the litigants. To redress the same, they were in touch with the state government. After long correspondence with the Chief Secretary and the Chief Minister, it was decided that the High Court should go ahead with appointments, but very soon would also take some time, he said.

Khanna: The local courts were inspected by Mr Justice N. K. Sodhi here on Wednesday.

Mr Justice Sodhi reached the courts in the afternoon along with Mr Baldev Singh, District and Sessions Judge, Ludhiana. He inspected court records and observed the hearing of some cases.

A welcome function was organised by the local Bar Association in the Bar Room. A memorandum was also presented by the association to Mr Justice Sodhi. The Bar members demanded that the entire work of Payal subdivision be shifted to the Khanna court as no judicial court had been notified there.
