Rakesh Jolly stars in Haryana’s victory

New Delhi, May 15
An all-round performance by Rakesh Jolly (3 for 27 and 27) was the highlight of Haryana’s five-wicket victory against Gujarat and entered the semi-final of the fifth National Inter-State Veterans Cricket Championship at the Delhi University ground on Thursday.

Haryana captain Rakesh Jolly won the toss and opted to field. And then he himself showed the way by demolishing the Haryana batting line-up with a three-wicket haul.

Gujarat struggled to make 129 for 9 in the allotted 35 overs, and Haryana easily raced to victory for the loss of five wickets in 33.2 overs.

Scores: Gujarat: 129 for 9 in 35 overs (Amit Buch 35, Dhansukh Patel 20, Rakesh Jolly 3 for 23, R Madan 2 for 17).

Haryana: 132 for 5 in 33.2 overs (Mahesh Sharma 33, Rakesh Jolly 27, Amarjeet K P 27 n o, Chetan Makar 2 for 19).

Rajan, Dileep help Shastri Club emerge champions

Rajan Gupta cracked a dashing century and Dileep scored a blazing 87 and 90 in the first and second innings respectively to help Lal Bahadur Shastri Club beat Inborn Club by 87 runs and emerge champions in the DDCA A-I Division Cricket League at the Palam ground.

Scores: Lal Bahadur Shastri Club (1st innings): 285 for 8 in 60 overs (Dileep T T 90, Sanjay Rawat 50, Sandeep Yadav 44, Arun Chaudhary 3 for 79, Sonu Vaid 2 for 48). Second innings: 207 for 4 in 30 overs (Rajan Gupta 100, Dileep T.T 90, Karamvir Bhati 2 for 23).

Inborn Club made 215 all out in 50.1 overs in the first innings.

Inborn Club (1st innings): 215 all out in 50.1 overs (Rahul Ahuja 41, Sonu Vaid 34, Sawej Khan 30, Sumit Rana 2 for 27, Ashutosh Sharma 2 for 32).

Anirudh, Arjun star for Sunheri Club

An all-round display by Anirudh Singh (2 for 16 and 58, 4x4, 3x6) and a half century by Arjun Gulati helped Sunheri Cricket Club beat Canara Bank by three wickets in a Group A League match of the Rajiv Gandhi Smriti NDCA League at the Mohan Meakins ground.

Scores: Canara Bank: 134 for 7 in 35 overs (T J Chawla 27, 3x4; Shri Pal 3 for 15, Naveen Chander 2 for 13, Anirudh Singh 2 for 16).

Sunheri Club: 135 for 7 in 27.4 overs (Anirudh Singh 58, 4x4, 3x6; Arjun Gulati 50 n o, 2x4, 2x6).

Prize money open cricket tournament

The All-India Public Sector Sports Promotion Board will organise a prize money Open Cricket Tournament in which 16 teams, including eight non Public Sector Unit teams from all over India, will participate.

The winners will take home a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh while the runners-up will pocket Rs 1 lakh. The tournament will be held in Delhi from September 1 to 15.

Aditya, Balinder shine for K G Colts

A blistering century knock of 128 by Aditya Aima and strokeful 77 by Balinder Singh enabled K G Colts beat Daryaganj Gymkhana by 277 runs in a DDCA Under-15 Cricket Tournament match at the Bharat Nagar ground. For K G Colts Aditya Aima played a cameo knock.

Scores: K G Colts: 347 in 45 overs (Aditya Aima 128, Balinder Singh 77, S P Bansal 40, Nishant Kumar 2 for 76).

Daryaganj Gymkhana: 70 all out in 19.3 overs (Nishant Kumar 51, Ritesh Sinha 4 for 26, Tarandeep Singh 4 for 33).

In another match, Chand Khanna Club defeated National Stadium by five wickets.

National Stadium: 138 in 44.3 overs (Shivam Sharma 29, S Dahiya 30, Hariom Chaudhary 5 or 30).

Chand Khanna: 142 for 5 in 26.5 overs (Vijay Kumar 78 n o, Tarun Asthe 31, Shivam Sharma 3 for 24).

Frank Anthony beat DDA

Frank Anthony Public School defeated Delhi Development Authority (DDA) Football Academy 5-4 in the inaugural five-a-side Ambuja Cup Football Tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium on Thursday.

The highlight of the match was four goals by Sylvester of Frank Anthony School.

Ankit James accounted for their other goal. For DDA Academy, Parth and Kshitiz scored a brace each.

Friday’s fixture: DDA Academy-B vs DAV Public School (4.30 p m); DDA Academy-C vs International Society School (5.15 p m)—Ambedkar Stadium.

Delhi Cup Prize Money TT

The Delhi Table Tennis Association (DTTA) will hold a Delhi Cup Rs 25,000 Prize Money Table Tennis Tournament at the Talkatora indoor stadium on June 28 and 29. The tournament will be held in five categories—men, women, boys, sub-junior and cadet boys.

Entry will be given to only the first 16 ranked players of Delhi.

The tournament will be held on a league-cum-knock out format. Cash prizes will be given from quarter-final onwards.

Entries, only from ranked players, close on June 20 with DTTA organising secretary Hukam Singh, 6/2543, Beadonpura, Karol Bagh, New Delhi or DTTA joint secretary Sandeep Gupta at WP-204 C, Pitampura, New Delhi.

Haryana lift wrestling title

Haryana emerged the champions in the All-India Electricity Board Wrestling Meet held at Hissar from May 9 to 11. Punjab secured the second position while NDPL (Delhi) finished third.

SDM presides over durbar at Rai

Sonepat: Today’s open durbar of the district administration at Rai, the block headquarters, was dominated by complaints from Nahra village relating to encroachments, disruption of telephone services, erratic power and drinking water supplies.

At the durbar, presided over by the SDM, Mr Sujan Singh Yadav, and attended by officers from other departments, Sunil Kumar of Nahra village complained more than 100 telephones of the village had been on the blink for the past many days. Despite complaints made to the telecommunication authorities, no steps had been taken to repair the faults.

He also urged the SDM to instruct the office of the District Transport Officer to transfer his driving licence, which was not being done despite several attempts. The SDM assured the complainants that their grievances would be redressed promptly.

The SDM was informed by the BDPO, Rai, that the Svajaldhara scheme was being implemented vigorously in about a dozen villages of the block. The SDM also carried out inspections at the Cooperative Bank branch, the ESI dispensary and Patwarkhana at Rai after the durbar.
