Jt Director held for bogus allotments

The Anti-Corruption Branch of the Delhi Government has arrested a top official of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on charges of corruption, with the police claiming to have unearthed a major scam in the relocation of slum clusters in the national Capital.

Khurana produces papers to nail Cong claim
New Delhi, May 9
Continuing with his tirade against the “corruption-ridden” Congress government in Delhi, BJP state unit chief Madan Lal Khurana today produced documents to show that files pertaining to bulk electricity consumers, who owe more than Rs 700 crore to the government, were not available with the government and have been misplaced.

The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) has questioned the Delhi Pradesh BJP’s intentions on the demand for declaring NCT of Delhi a State. DPCC President Subhash Chopra on Friday said the BJP had betrayed the sentiments of 1.4 crore Delhiites by not introducing the Bill for grant of statehood to NCT of Delhi in the Budget Session of Parliament that concluded today.

Bumper production brings down sugar price

The downward trend in sugar prices has adversely affected the financial health of the cooperative sugar mills in the state. The free quota sugar, which was sold at the rate of Rs 1,436 per quintal in 2000-2001, was being sold at a rate of Rs 1,127 per quintal in April.

Estranged husband kills wife
Sonepat, May 9
Frustrated over the estranged relations with his wife, Sanjiv Tyagi of Rewla Khanpur village in Delhi allegedly murdered his wife, Yashwanti, dumped her body in a field and surrendered before the police in the district on Thursday. According to information, Yashwanti of Bhigan village in Sonepat district was married to Sanjiv Tyagi about eight years back.

With the arrest of two persons from Muzaffarnagar district of UP yesterday, the police claim to have solved a daylight dacoity committed by at least seven armed assailants in the house of a prominent exporter, Dr Ram Niwas Goyal on April 3.

The Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Punjab National Bank (PNB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Friday for establishing the “SAI PNB Hockey Academy”.

FIFA appoints Delhi referee for Olympic qualifier

Delhi referee Rizwan-Ul-Haq has been informed by All India Football Federation (AIFF) secretary Alberto Colaco that he has been appointed as a referee by the International Football Federation (FIFA) to officiate in the Athens Olympics qualifying match between Palestine and Kuwait, to be held at the Prince Mohhamed International Stadium in Jordan on June 7.
