Ludhiana, May 9
There is a good news for heart patients. At least the age should no longer be a deterring factor for people intending to go in for cardiac surgery. Recently, Dr C.K. Mukherjee, cardiac surgeon, who returned from the USA and is working in Sigma Heart Institute, performed several operations on the patients of various ages from six months to 87 years.
Dr Mukherjee disclosed that the expertise on the part of surgeons and the latest technology has brought fresh hope for chronic cardiac patients. He disclosed that only a few months ago 87-year-old ex-Army officer Darbara Singh was operated upon. He was admitted with unstable angina. His strong will power helped doctors to perform coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Within a few months he recovered fully and is living a normal life. He said there was another patient, B.S. Gill, a government officer. He was a diabetic and had diffuse triple vessel disease. He also underwent CABG and was feeling normal.
Dr Mukherjee has experience of working in centres like Texas Heart Institute, USA, BM Birla Heart Institute, Kolkata, and Bombay Hospital, Mumbai.
He suggested that people should constantly monitor their health as cardiac problems did not have any apparent symptoms. It was better to have regular check-ups so that problem, if any, could be sorted out at an early stage.
