Puneet Waliya stars in RP Academy’s victory

An all-round performance by Puneet Walia (32 and 5 for 28) and fine batting by Rahul Baluni (37, 6x4) and Akshay Kalkar (37, 5x4) helped R P Cricket Academy beat J D Tytler School by 36 runs and entered the semi-final of the first Bhavan Under-13 Cricket Tournament at the Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan.

Scores: R P Academy: 195 for 5 in 30 overs (Rahul Baluni 37, Akshay 37, Ankit 3 for 40, Puneet 32). J D Tytler School: 159 all out in 29.3 overs (Vivek Misra 36, Akshay 33, Puneet Waliya 5 for 28, Ansul Baluni 2 for 10, Adil Singh 2 for 20).

Malviya Club enter final

Malviya Club beat Darling Club of Delhi by five runs to enter the final of the RBSC International Sixes Tournament in Thailand.

NIIT beat Reebok by three wickets

NIIT defeated Reebok by three wickets in the Reebok Cricket Tournament.

FCI annex Om Nath Sood cricket title

New Delhi, April 30
Deadly bowling by left-arm medium pacer K S Rana (3 for 34) and a dashing knock by Rajender Bisht (69, 2x6, 10x4, 53b) helped Food Corporation of India (FCI) defeat Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) by seven wickets to annex the 13th All-India Om Nath Sood Memorial Cricket Tournament at the Khalsa College ground on Wednesday.

FCI won the toss and elected to field. ONGC were shot out for 153 in 36.1 overs while FCI reached the winning target for the loss of three wickets in 18.5 overs. Rajinder Bisht and Akash Malhotra put on 121 runs in 15 overs for the second wicket. FCI received a cash award of Rs 25,000 while ONGC gained Rs 15,000.

Former Delhi player Dilbagh Singh gave away the prizes. Gagan Khoda of ONGC was named the best batsman of the tournament while the best bowler award went to Pankaj Thakur. Akash Malhotra was adjudged the best all-rounder while Naveen Negi received the best wicket-keeper award. K S Rana was named the man of the final. Scores: ONGC: 153 in 36.1 overs (Sunil Joshi 33, Ajay Ratra 28, K S Rana 3 for 34, Manu Kumar 2 for 26, Pankaj 2 for 28). FCI : 154 for 3 in 18.5 overs (Rajender Bisht 69, Akash Malhotra 66).

Maruti to hold Rally Desert Storm

New Delhi, April 30
Maruti Udyog Limited will hold a Rally Desert Storm on May 3 and 4. The rally will be flagged off from New Delhi on May 3 and then proceed towards Jaipur via Haryana.

It is a stage rally designed to test the mettle of the drivers and their navigators.

The gruelling route, spanning over 500km, will be divided into competition sections and interconnecting transport sections, along public roads.

The first day of the rally will test the skills of the drivers by taking them over tarmac, rockey, uphill competitive sections through Bhatti Mines near Surajkund, as well as through villages like Ghaata and Pratapgarh in the remote interiors of Rajasthan.

On the second day, the participants will tackle riverbeds and treacherous sand sections around Samod and Chomp in the Jaipur district. The rally will culminate in Jaipur on May 4 evening, followed by the award ceremony.

The rally, exclusively meant for Maruti vehicles, is expected to bring together over 30 professional participants from across the country.

The Rally Desert Storm is the latest addition to Maruti Suzuki’s motor sports calendar. Maruti organises treasure hunts and women power drives, National Road Racing Championship, Raid-de-Himalaya, Maruti-Suzuki Autocross and the National Karting Championship.

A half century by Sachin Bisht (50, 7x4) and a quickfire 47, studded with five fours, by Ujjawal Nanda helped University Cricket Coaching Centre beat West Delhi Cricket Academy by 18 runs in a league match of the second Kundan Lal Jain Memorial Under-17 Cricket Tournament at the Government School ground, Vikaspuri.

Scores: University Coaching Centre: 184 all out in 34.4 overs (Sachin Bisht 50, 7x4; Ujjawal Nanda 47, 5x4; Chayan 25, Chaman Singh 3 for 36, Rohit 3 for 39).

West Delhi Cricket Academy: 166 all out in 34.3 overs (Raman Gujral 27, Virat Kohli 26, Varun Sood 2 for 18, Chayan 2 for 32).

AIIMS enter semi-final

Fine knocks by Rajeev Uniyal (92) and Ravinder Rawat (52) helped All India Institute of Medical Sciences beat Surmount Club by four wickets and entered the semi-final of the second Rajdhani Cup Cricket Tournament at the Najafgarh Sports Club ground.

Scores: Surmount Club: 211 for 7 in 35 overs (Jitender Gulia 103, Parmesh Bhatia 32, Vikas Sharma 3 for 32, Mahender Bisth 3 for 23).

AIIMS: 213 for 6 in 31.2 overs (Rajeev Uniyal 94, Ravinder Rawat 52, Rakesh Rishi 3 for 33).

Raman, Keshar help Kanishka enter final

Strokeful knocks by Raman Ghai (92) and Kesar Chaudhary (51) helped Lion Kanishka beat Pioneer Club by an innings and 27 runs to enter the final of the DDCA B Division Super League Knockout Cricket Tournament at the Central Secretariat ground.

SAIL move up in S P Trophy

An all-round performance by Oneil Wilson (51 and 3 for 36) and deadly bowling by Sushil Prasad (3 for 30) helped Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) beat Malviya Club by 12 runs.

The Steel Authority of India Ltd entered the quarter-final of the 12th Shera Pandit Memorial Cricket Tournament at the Mohan Meakins ground. Wilson was declared the man of the match.

Scores: SAIL: 177 for 9 in 40 overs (Oneil Wilson 51, Manu Kumar 36, Rohit Mehra 3 for 28).

AIFF selects five Delhi players for Under-18 camp

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has selected five Delhi players for the Indian Under-18 training camp to be held in Goa in May.

Delhi Soccer Association secretary N K Bhatia announced that defender Sachin Bowari, mid-fielder Sayantan Das Roy,

forwards Subrota Dey and Avdesh Pal and mid-fielder Ashish Pandey have been selected for the camp.

Ashish had represented the Indian Under-16 team, which went on an exposure tour to Germany, and in the Asian Under-16 Championship, held in the United Arab Emirates last year.

While four players will join the camp on May 18 and 19, Ashish will join the camp only on May 27.

Nagar Nigam passes Rs 77.39-cr budget

Ghaziabad, April 30
The Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam has passed a budget of Rs 77.39 crore for 2003-04 with an estimated income of Rs 62.17 crore and Rs 73.53 crore expenditure for the year.

The Nigam will execute a special drinking water project for rural areas at a cost of Rs 10 lakh. The budget was presented by Municipal Commissioner Rambodh Maurya in the meeting, which started at 11.15 am with some uproarious scene under the chairmanship of Mayor Dinesh Chand Garg. Mr Maurya said that out of a budget of Rs 77.39 crore, the sum of Rs 15.21 crore is a carry-over from the previous year.

This year an income of Rs 62.17 crore has been estimated which is Rs 16 crore higher than that of last year.

Additional income of Rs 5 crore will be earned from taxes, Rs 2 crore from advertisement, Rs 3 crore from taxation, Rs 3 crore from registration etc, the Nagar Nigam Commissioner said.

An income of Rs 29 crore will be earned from the reserve assets, house tax will yield Rs 12 crore, and another Rs 6 crore from the water cess, Rs 2 crore from the sewers A provision of Rs 73.53 crore expenditure has been made in the Nagar Nigam Budget for 2003-04.

Out of this, Rs 26.6 crore will be spent on public works, Rs 9.75 crore on water works, Rs 3 crore on streetlighting, Rs 18 crore on cleanliness, Rs 5.17 crore on education and sports.

The Nagar Nigam Commissioner said that a sum of Rs 5 crore has been earmarked for potable water in rural areas including sinking of 20 tube wells.
