Teachers oppose elementary directorate

Ludhiana, April 26
Hundreds of government primary teachers opposing the introduction of elementary directorate in schools burnt copies of a government notification here today.

The members of the Primary Bachao Front, Punjab, comprising eight groups of primary teacher, participated in the demonstration that formed the first phase of their agitation. A rally was also held outside the Mini-Secretariat. Mr Piara Singh Dhillon, president, Government Primary Teachers Association, addressed the gathering. He said with the establishment of the new elementary directorate, the promotion channel of primary teachers as head teacher, centre head teacher and block primary education officer would be blocked.

Mr Dhillon said such dharnas were also organised at Jalandhar, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur and Muktsar today. In the next phase on April 29, dharnas would be held at Moga, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Gurdaspur and Sangrur, he said. The remaining district units would organise dharnas on May 6 and the copies of the notification would also be burnt.

Talent hunt contest held

Students of Gupta Model High School participated in a talent hunt contest organised under the aegis of Asian Club International here today.

On the occasion, inter-house contests were held for solo-dance, mono-acting and recitation in which 12 selected items were presented. In the dance competition, Shilpa Miglani of Bhaskar House was declared first and Neha Puri of Rohini House stood second. In poem recitation, Deepika Grover of Bhaskar House stood first, followed by Manpreet Singh of Aryabhatta House. In mono-acting, Shilpa Miglani of Bhaskar House clinched the first prize, while the second prize was won by Honey Jethani of Rohini House.Back

 

NAAC team holds inspection

Ludhiana, April 26
To assess the academic and administrative functioning, a team of the National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC) visited GHG Harprakash College of Education for Women, Sidhwan Khurd, here yesterday.

The team inspected for various infrastructural facilities in the college, including laboratories and libraries. An inspection was also made of varied activities of the college, including writings for journals, participation in conferences, holding seminars and extension lectures. Interaction was held with the management, the principal, Dr Rajwant Kaur, the staff and the students of the college to know about the proper utilisation of UGC grants given to it for the Ninth Plan and discuss various schemes planned for the Tenth Plan. The members of the inspection team included Dr Kundu, Dr Kamath and Dr Stella from the UGC.Back
