Administration opens 14 wheat purchase centres Panipat, April 21 The DC told the farmers that for the purchase of wheat the administration had opened as many as 14 purchase centres in the district for the benefit of the farmers so that they did not have to go to far off places for selling their produce. The DC further said the purchase, lifting and storage facilities had been provided by the district administration and agencies concerned have been directed to lift the wheat at the earliest so that farmers did not feel any sort of difficulty while bringing their produce in mandis. The DC advised the farmers today to stop harvesting their wheat crops through combine machines and go in for manual system as on the one hand labour would be engaged and get employment and on the other hand animal fodder would be available as with the use of combine machines the farmers were left with no choice but to burn the studs left over by combine machines. He further asked the farmers to fire the leftover studs in such a manner that the nearby ready crop did not get damaged due to negligence of farmers or winds. He also advised that the farmers must not work under the live electric wires nor they should collect their wheat crop there to avoid any unforeseen mishap. Giving details of the arrival of the wheat produce, the DC said that by April 19, 96,151 metric tonnes (MT) of wheat arrived as compared to 60,773 MT during last year. Opposition leader opens MCD can of worms New Delhi, April 21 He said that the Congress party was a failure on ‘all fronts’ and number scandals were unearthed in almost every project undertaken by the party. In the first year, the corporation was headed by the Mayor, Mrs Jaishree Panwar and Leader of the House, Mr Ram Babu Sharma. In the second year, Mr Ashok Kumar Jain has been elected the Mayor. While exposing the scandals, he alleged that no new tender was invited for the mid-day meals during the year. He said apples were purchased from people who had no experience in this field and even his name was not registered with the market committee. He alleged that biscuits were purchased from firms on ‘old rates’ whereas there was considerable decrease in the cost of biscuits owing to the decline in prices of sugar and wheat, as well as reduction of rates of excise. The Social Welfare Department of the Delhi Government opened fresh tenders on March 11 in which the lowest rate of the biscuits quoted was Rs 17.50 per kg, whereas the MCD had purchased biscuits at the rate of Rs 31.75 per kg. Likewise, jerseys were also purchased without inviting any tender during the year. The Opposition members had raised the issue of jersey in the Standing Committee meeting. However, the ruling party did not pay attention to it. Embezzlement of crores of rupees in payment of muster roll employees engaged for desilting of nallahas was also alleged. The Slum Department paid Rs 9,000 to a firm to provide computer training to each of its employee. However, it was alleged that the same firm is providing similar training in the market for Rs 4,000. Besides, five employees of the Slum Department were deputed for MBA course in Nepal whereas the standard of educational institutions in India is far better than that of in Nepal. The Opposition member also called the constitution of the Executive Committee of Hardayal Municipal Public Library by the Mayor as ‘illegal’. They alleged that the secretary of the committee was nominated without an election, who had later allegedly appointed his family members and had also indulged in ‘misappropriation of library funds’. |
