Jagdish, Sonika emerge wrestling champs

New Delhi, April 15
Chandgi Ram siblings Jagdish Kaliraman and Sonika Kaliraman hogged the spotlight as they cantered away with the top prizes in the second Guru Hanuman Gurj Dangal held at Majri Karala.

Jagdish Kaliraman, son of Master Chandgi Ram, the former Asian champion, defeated Surender Nad of Haryana convincingly to lift the men’s title while Sonika Kaliraman outpointed international Kamini Yadav by a huge margin of 11-1, to record victory through a technical fall. Jagdish was presented a Maruti car while Sonika was given a TVS scooter.

Sports Authority of India coach Sahdev Singh Balyan, who is attached to the Chandgi Ram Akhara, said this was the fourth time this year that the brother-sister combination of Chandgi Ram’s children had emerged victorious in title clashes at the national level.

Union Labour Minister Sahib Singh Verma gave away the prizes. He profusely praised Master Chandgi Ram for making his children champion wrestlers.

Yashpal Singh slams century for Sonnet

New Delhi, April 15
An electrifying unbeaten century by Services middle order batsman Yashpal Singh (110 n o, 2x6, 9x4, 88b) and a dashing 81, studded with eight boundaries, by Mayank Sidana helped Sonnet Club beat DSI XI by 89 runs to enter the pre-quarter-final of the 13th All-India Om Nath Sood Memorial Cricket Tournament at the Khalsa College ground.

DSI won the toss and opted to field. Sonnet made merry on the fresh wicket as Yashpal and Mayank indulged in a batting blitzkrieg to enable their team to post a handsome total of 256 for 4 in 40 overs. DSI miserably failed to chase such a huge target as their wickets crashed like nine pins, unable to face the hostile bowling spells of Karan Harit (4 for 25) and Chetanya Nanda (2 for 24).

Yashpal Singh was presented the Pepsi man of the match award by chief guest Anil Sood.

Sonnet Club made 256 for 4 in 40 overs. Scores: Sonnet Club: 256 for 4 in 40 overs (Yashpal Singh 110 n o, Mayank Sidana 81, Subodh Badola 2 for 33).

DSI XI: 167 in 38.3 overs (Mohit Vadera 50, Subodh Badola 23, Sachin Khurana 22, Karan Harit 4 for 25, Chetanya Nanda 2 for 24).

Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Trust (JNST) defeated British High Commission by 145 runs to win the second Raymond Commonwealth Cricket Tournament, played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium ground.

JNST won the toss and elected to bat. Vivek Razdan and Sunil Narula put on a 122-run third-wicket partnership to give a sound start to the JNST innings. And then dismissed the British High Commission cheaply to race to victory comfortably.

Chief guest Mark Runacres inaugurated the final match. British High Commissioner Sir Bob Young gave away the prizes.

Sunil Narula was named the best batsman while Sarkar Talwar got the best bowler award. Dhanraj Singh was adjudged the man of the tournament.

Scores: JNST XI: 374 for 9 in 45 overs (Vivek Razdan 87, Sunil Narula 86, Dhanraj 48, Vikram Kaul 47, Sarkar Talwar 25, Sri 3 for 51).

Ganga School move into final

Vikram cracked a strokeful 124, laced with 15 boundaries and two sixes, and Puneet Zakra hit a rapidfire 60 with ten fours, to help Ganga School beat Hansraj Model School, Punjabi Bagh by 75 runs and entered the final of the Pankaj Jain Under-13 Cricket Tournament at the Bal Bharti School ground, Pitam Pura. Vikram was named the man of the match.

Scores: Ganga School: 255 for 4 in 30 overs (Vikram 124, Puneet 60). Hansraj School: 180 all out in 27.4 overs (Neeraj 61, Virender 2 for 17, Paras Rana 3 for 19).

Canon beat Motorola

Canon defeated Motorola by four wickets in the Reebok Cricket Tournament.

Scores: Motorola: 180 for 8 in 25 overs (Alok Singh 45, 4x6; Ranjeet Jha 24, 4x2, 6x1; Ramee 3 for 34, Manohar 2 for 33).

Canon: 180 for 6 in 25 overs (Prashant Sharma 53, 4x3; Ravi Kiran 31, 4x3; Puneet Mishra 2 for 33). Prashant Sharma was named the man of the match. In another match, NIIT defeated Aviva by six wickets.

Scores: Aviva: 133 all out in 25 overs (Nirlipt Singh 37, 4x3; Bhaskar Ganguly 28, 4x6; Vikas Verma 4 for 32, Kapil Gupta 2 for 25).

NIIT: 134 for 4 in 15.2 overs (Aashish Prasad 57 n o, 4x9; Kapil Gupta 16 n o, 4x2, Ajay Bhanwari 2 for 45). Vikas Verma was adjudged the man of the match.

Hansraj enter semis

Hansraj Academy beat Ravindra Public School by 99 runs to enter the semi-final of the first Dr Hedgewar Cup Under-15 Cricket Tournament at the RSKP ground. Mohit Sharma, who hit an unbeaten 97, was named the man of the match.

Scores: Hansraj Academy: 263 for 6 in 40 overs (Mohit Sharma 97 n o, Onant Jaising 77, Rahul Yadav 40, Dhiraj Bisth 3 for 35).

Ravindra School: 164 for 7 in 40 overs (Prateek Chawla 58, Vipul Gupta 58 n o, Puneet Anand 3 for 25).

In another match, Young Friends Club beat United Delhi Cricket Academy by one run.

Neeraj, Hitanshu star for K N Colts

A strokefilled 85, with 12 fours, by opener Neeraj Sehgal and his 110-run partnership with Hitanshu (48, 6x4) helped K N Colts beat Canara Bank by 68 runs in a Group A League match of the Rajiv Gandhi Smriti North Delhi Cricket League at the Siri Fort Sports Complex ground. Neeraj Sehgal was named the man of the match.

Scores: K N Colts: 187 for 4 in 30 overs (Neeraj Sehgal 85, 12x4; Hitanshu 48, Shiv Kumar 2 for 21, Arun Jain 2 for 27). Canara Bank: 119 for 9 in 30 overs (Roop Kishore 29, Akshit Khandelwal 2 for 6, Dinesh Rai 2 for 15).

MCC Vikaspuri beat Youngsters by 88 runs in the second Rajdhani Cup Cricket Tournament at the Najafgarh Sports Club ground.

GHPS Loni Road record big victory

New Delhi, April 15
Guru Harkrishan Public School, Loni Road crushed Guru Harkrishan Public School, Fateh Nagar 9-0 in the All-India Sahibzada Ajit Singh Gold Cup Hockey Tournament at the Shivaji Stadium on Tuesday. Navetej scored three goals while Prashant and Jagdeep accounted for one and two goals respectively.

In another match, Guru Teg Bahadur Senior Secondary School, Baba Bakala were given a 0-8 hiding by GGS Khalsa School, Sarhali (Amritsar). Jagseer, Pardeep, Tajinder, Sukhwinder and Shivraj were the goal-scorers for the Amritsar school. In the third match, Doaba Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Jalandhar defeated Guru Harkrishan Public School, Vasant Vihar 11-0. OSR
