Jaanesh bags tennis titles

Jaanesh Kaur of Tender Heart School, Sector 33, bagged two titles in under-12 and under-14 sections of the Fort Total Tennis Championship played at YMCA, Sector 11, here today. Mr Devinder Kapoor, director of the academy, said today’s tournament was the end of the third and final leg and it evoked good response. Later, Mr S.K. Sandhu, Director Industries, Punjab, distributed prizes. Results: finals; under10: boys — Garry Amor Singh b Fateh Singh 6-1,6-0; under 12: girls: Jaanesh Kaur b Pallak Grewal 5-7, 7-5, 6-3; boys: Akshat Joshi b Ankit Badoni 7-5, 4-6, 6-1; under 14: girls: Jaanesh Kaur b Divya Rangray 6-3,6-2; boys: Mandeep Yadav b Yuvresh Bansal 7-5, 6-1; and under 18: boys: Karan Patnaik b Gurmeher Brar 6-3, 2-6, 6-2. Cricket tourneyFine performance by Sanjeev Trikha, who scored 53 runs and claimed four wickets for just 20 runs, enabled the High Court XI, Chandigarh, in beating the Jalandhar Bar Association XI by 63 runs in the final of the District Courts Lawyers Cricket Tournament played at the Sector 3 cricket grounds, Panchkula, on Sunday. Dr Anmol Rattan Sidhu, member, Bar Council, Punjab and Haryana, and Mr Sajel Kosar, president, Chandigarh District Courts Association, gave away prizes. In another tournament, Tiger XI outplayed Maa Saraswati XI by five wickets in the VIIth UT League Cricket Meet played at the Sector 27 cricket grounds, here on sunday. In another tie, the Competent Cricket Club defeated the Power Cricket Club by a margin of 135 runs; Elite XI outclassed Parinda XI by 194 runs; AYC XI beat BSNL XI by 56 runs; Blue Star XI defeated Panther XI by 29 runs; Seventeen CC defeated Ankur XI by 184 runs; and Chetna CC beat Prudential CC by seven wickets.
