Chandigarh, March 18
The much-awaited musical breather is again knocking at our doors. Exactly after a year, Pracheen Kala Kendra is ready to unfold its treasure of music and dance, as it braces to organise the 33rd All-India Bhaskar Rao Nritya and Sangeet Sammelan at Tagore Theatre from March 20. As the curtains get ready to be drawn, the city may well brace itself up to welcome exponents of the order of M. Balamurali Krishna, the unmatched exponent of Carnatic music and a Padma Vibhushan, Mamata Shankar, the celebrated dancer-daughter of legendary Pt Uday Shankar, the sitar maestro Shahid Pervez and renowned Kathak exponent Uma Sharma, who performs in both Jaipur and Lucknow styles with admirable ease.

For music lovers this year’s concert will be made worthwhile like never before, with none other than the eminent exponent of South Indian music Padma Vibhushan. Dr M. Balamurali Krishna conceding to throw open the concert with his inaugural vocal recital.

Featuring along with her guru on the inaugural day will be Dr Saraswati, who will blend the three South Indian dance traditions of Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi and Mohiniattam into a single presentation, supported by her troupe.

The second day will follow closely in the footsteps of the first, with another stalwart of the North Indian classical dance form of Kathak — Padma Bhushan Uma Sharma presenting her recital. Her presentation has been co-scheduled with the vocal recital by an upcoming artist Suhas Vyas, who owes his talent to his Padma Bhushan father Pt C.R. Vyas, a renowned vocalist.

March 22 will be dominated by dance, with Pt Uday Shankar’s daughter Mamata Shankar coming down with her troupe to enthrall the audience with her Arghya and dance drama. Rimpa will present the recital after Mamata Shankar on March 22. The conclusion will also be set to the tone of perfection as world renowned sitarist Shahid Pervez flies down to Chandigarh to spread the wings of his melodies.
