Farewell to college students

Doraha, March 17
For the past four days farewell parties are being arranged by the four departments of Guru Nanak College, Doraha.
The outgoing students were wished success by Dr Ishwar Singh, president, college management committee, and Mr Jaswant Singh Gill, Principal of the college.

The girls of M.A.-I, Postgraduate Department, bid adieu to their seniors. The occasion was marked by dances, songs, skits and farewell speeches. Prof. J.S.Grewal, Head of the Postgraduate Department, also spoke on the occasion.

Similarly, the Arts Block (boys) also held their farewell party. The students of B.A.-II of Arts Block(Girls) had wished farewell to their seniors on Saturday. It was a lively show with songs, dances, poems, jokes, comments, modelling, histrionics, games, being held followed by exchange of gifts between students and members of the staff. Harpreet Kaur was declared Miss Farewell, Taranjeet Kaur Miss Beautiful, Gurpinder Kaur Miss Well-Dressed and Gurinder Kaur Miss Talented.

Students of B.Com-II also bid adieu to their seniors yesterday. Harpinder Kaur was declared Miss Farewell, Sandeep Kaur Miss Smile and Renu Miss Well Dressed. Among boys, Aneesh was Mr Farewell and Vikas Mr Well Dressed.

Mr Jaswant Singh Gill stated that the convocation would be held on March 18 at 10.30a.m. Lala Lajpat Rai, Member of Parliament, would be the chief guest.

DMCH Principal gets extension

Ludhiana, March 17
Dr S.C. Ahuja, Principal, Dayanand Medical College and Hospital has been given extension for two years. Three other doctors of the hospital have also got extension.

The others who have been given extension for two years are Dr Gurcharan Awasthi, Professor and Head, Department of Medicine, Dr K.L. Bhatia, Reader in the Medicine Department and Dr (Mrs) Veena Sood, professor, anatomy.

Dr Ahuja was supposed to retire on March 31 while Dr Awasthi retired on February 28 and got extension. Dr Bhatia was due to retire on March 31 and Mrs Sood on May 31.

Meanwhile, the number of OPD patients has crossed 800.

The election for the office-bearers of the managing society of the Dyanand Medical College and Hospital is scheduled to be held on March 28. The last date for nominations is March 19. The date for withdrawal of nomination papers is March 24.

205 students receive prizes

Ahmedgarh, March 17
More than 200 students of local Shanti Tara College were honoured at the annual prize distribution function which was presided over by Mr R.C. Paul, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala. Mr Amit Gupta, Director, Sabina Group of Industries, was the chief guest.

As many as 205 students received prizes. Of these 133 students were honoured for academics, 45 for sports, 18 for cultural activities and nine for social service.

Prominent among prize winners were Ms Monika Vaid (for winning seven medals in university sports), Ms Raj Kaur Benipal (best sportswoman) and Mr Hartej Singh (best sportsman). Mr Tejwant Kettu, Music Director, was also felicitated for his distinguished contributions.
