BATHINDA
INJURED: Veerpal Kaur (23), a resident of Kale Bandar village, was admitted to hospital with burn injuries. Hospital sources said Veerpal Kaur had 55 per cent burn injuries.

LUDHIANA
HONOURED: The Malwa Sabhyacharak Manch organised a function to honour Mr Raminder Singh, Administrator, Ludhiana Improvement Trust, on his new posting as Deputy Commissioner of Ferozepore. Speaking at the occasion, Mr Raminder Singh, who has had a long stay in the city as Registrar, Punjab Agricultural University, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Additional Chief Administrator, PUDA, and Additional Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, expressed his gratitude to the city residents for their love and affection during his stint at various posts here. Besides Mr Krishan Kumar Bawa, Chairman of the manch, and Mr Malkiat Singh Dakha, Congress legislator, a large number of government officials and other dignitaries attended the function.

FUN FOR KIDS: It was fun and frolic for tiny tots when Tom and Jerry came to their schools lawns and played cricket before them. The event was a roadshow called “Toon Network-2003” organised by Cartoon Network at Sacred Heart Convent Senior Secondary School, CFC School, St Thomas School and Bhartiya Vidya Mandir on Monday. Kids from class I to III met their favourite cartoons who stepped out of the colourful “Toon Mobile”.

DEMONSTRATION: The local chapter of the Indian Doctors for Peace and Development (IDPD) will stage a demonstration at the Mini Secretariat here on February 19 in protest against a possible war on Iraq by the USA. IDPD claimed the support of various other organisations in their protest. The general secretary of the local chapter of the IDPD, Mr Arun Mitra, said war would not only cause the loss of thousands of innocent lives, but would also have economic ramifications across the world.

STUDY CENTRE: The Bengal Institute of Health Sciences will inaugurate an extension study centre of IGNOU on its campus in Jalaldiwal village in Raikot tehsil on February 19. On this occasion, a seminar on “AIDS- need of a social campaign” will also organised, according to Dr A.K. Banerjee, director, of the institute.

MANSA
OCTROI COLLECTION: The collection of octroi of Municipal Council Mansa, was auctioned on Monday for Rs 1,90,50,000 against the reserve price of Rs 1.9 crore for one year. The auction took place in the office of the Deputy Director, Local Government, Mr TR Sharma.
