DMCH to organise soccer meet

Ludhiana, February 17
With the World Cup spirit in the air, Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) is gearing up to organise Inter-Batch Football Tournament at the Satish Dhawan Government College for Boys ground here from February 18 to 24. The event has been planned by the Staff Sports Committee of the DMCH to promote sports activities among the staff and students under the programme, “Move for Health-WHO Motto-2003’.

Dr S.C. Ahuja, Principal, DMCH, will inaugurate the week-long meet tomorrow at 2 pm. The inaugural match of the meet will be played between the team of medical students and team of consultants comprising Dr S.C. Ahuja, Dr Sandeep Puri, Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina, Dr Gagandeep Singh, Dr Manish Munjal, Dr Anurag Tiwari, Dr Ashwini Chowdhary, Dr Atul Mishra, Dr B.S. Shah, Dr B S Aulakh, Dr Bikram Sandhu, Dr Daljit Singh, Dr G S Bajwa, Dr Gagandeep Singh, Dr H.S. Pannu, Dr Harpal Singh, Dr Jaspal Singh, Dr Mandeep Bhangoo, Dr Navneet Narula, Dr P.G. Gautam and Dr P.S. Nain.

There is enthusiasm and excitement among the students regarding the tournament. “It would be a nice change from our regular study routine and we are quite enthusiastic about it. We are eagerly looking forward to the opening match in which we will play against our teachers,” quipped Wishwadeep Singh Dhillon, an undergraduate student.

LDCA meeting held

Ludhiana, February 17
A meeting of the executive committee of the newly constituted Ludhiana District Cricket Association (LDCA) was held at the Mini-Secretariat here today. The meeting was chaired by Mr Anurag Aggarwal, Deputy Commissioner and ex-officio chairman of the association.

According to a press note issued here today by Mr Rajinder Mahajan, president , LDCA, it was decided to organise a cricket match in the city, involving some veteran cricketers like Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Madan Lal, Poly Umrigar and Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi.

The meeting also decided to urge its parent body, the Punjab Cricket Association to allot Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy and Deodhar Trophy matches to the association in the forthcoming cricket session. Mr Aggarwal assured of his assistance in constructing the proposed cricket stadium in the city.

CIA officer’s car challaned

The district police crackdown on violators of traffic rules acquired intensity when the city SSP, issued orders to a police party to challan a vehicle allegedly owned by a senior officer of the CIA yesterday. The SSP saw the parked vehicle and ordered junior colleagues to issue the challan. This has probably happened for the first time that the vehicle of a senior officer has been challaned.
