India to host cricket tourney for travel community New Delhi, February 6 The matches will be played in different cities across the country. The Delhi finals will be played on February 16. Each team, consisting of seven players, will play six overs each on a knock-out basis. In Delhi, 41 travel agents and 16 airlines have qualified to play in the tournament.
Sonnet beat Montfort Sonnet Club defeated Montfort Academy by 31 runs in a league match of the first United Cricket Cup Under-15 Tournament at the Picnic Hut ground, Ashok Vihar. Sonnet Club moved into the semi-final. Yogesh Nagar, who produced a fine all-round performance, was named the man of the match. tie-up for SMS New Delhi, February 6 Cricket magazine A monthly cricket magazine, Diamond Cricket Today, was launched by national cricket selector Kirti Azad in Delhi. Cricket Today is the fourth magazine and the first in English from the Diamond group. Kirti Azad said the ad hoc policy of dropping and recalling of players was a deterrent to the natural style and morale of the players. Another former Test player Madan Lal said the players should not be put on a media trial as such things would put unnecessary pressure on the players. Four players of the India A cricket team — Ajay Ratra, J P Yadav, Rakesh Patel and Conner Williams — were also felicitated. |
Moti Lal edge past Dayal Singh College New Delhi, February 6 Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences (IGIPESS) trounced Jamia Hamdard 3-1. Vijay Kanti, Uttam Singh and Praveen Lawrence scored the goals for the winners while Mohd Fahad Haroon netted the consolation goal for the losers. Last year’s runners-up Zakir Hussain College routed St Stephen’s 2-0. Surender Mann and Ch Rajesh scored the goals in either half. In the semi-finals, to be played on Saturday, Jamia Millia will take on Motilal Nehru College (Evening) at 12 noon while Zakir Hussain will clash against IGIPESs at 2 pm.
Hindustan to meet IAF in DSA final Defending champions Hindustan Club will meet Indian Air Force (IAF), New Delhi in the final of the Delhi Soccer Association (DSA)-SAIL Senior Division Football League Championship at the Ambedkar Stadium on Friday at 2 pm. Hindustan enjoy a distinct edge, as they are packed with talented players like leading goal-scorer Sameer Jung and crafty Hitender Singh Rawat. Hindustan, which maintained an unbeaten streak, lost to Moonlight Club in the second leg of the semi-final, but their 3-0 victory in the first leg had paved their way to the final. IAF, which beat New Delhi Heroes in the second leg, will strive their best to lift the crown. |

Chandigarh. Johl added a one-under 70 to his overnight three-under 68. Overnight joint-leader Vivek Bhandari was off colour in the front nine, and was six-over by the time he finished eight holes. He finished with a five-over 76 to fall back to tied 14th place at one over 143. |
Jindal Steel power past Tag Army New Delhi, February 6 In an evenly matched game, both the teams, enjoying 19-goal handicaps, fought it tooth and nail to gain supremacy. The teams scored two goals each in the first chukker. They maintained the momentum in the second and third chukkers too, but the pace dropped in the fourth chukker as the players and their mounts started tiring. Jindal led by 7-4 at the beginning of the fifth chukker. Pablo Jauretche, a seven-goal player, made an amazing 90-yard hit to put his team in a comfortable position. At the fag end of the chukker, Gerardo Collardin, another seven-goal player, with an under-the-neck shot, scored Army’s fifth goal and added the sixth off a penalty. Pablo scored a run through goal for Jindal. Jindal scored two goals in the sixth chukker to widen their lead to 11-6. The semi-finals will be held on Saturday and the final on Sunday. |
We have not lost sight of sports, say Delhi Police New Delhi, February 6 “We shall continue to send teams in various disciplines in which we are up to the mark”, Joint Commissioner of Police (Armed Police) Mr Yudhbir Singh Dadwal said in a statement faxed to the NCR Tribune. Mr Dadwal’s statement was in response to a news item published in the NCR Tribune on Thursday wherein it was pointed out that the Delhi Police had decided against sending teams in certain disciplines to the all India police games at Thirunanthapuram as it would affect the policing duties in the Capital. “While our teams may not participate in certain events, individual players of such events, such as Head Constable Yudhbir Singh, who is a member of the Delhi state basketball team, shall continue to get full opportunity to practice their skills”, Mr Dadwal said. |
