Doctor to pay for overlooking
complications in patient
Nawal Kishore Rastogi

Rewari, February 4
The Rewari District Consumer Disputes Redressal forum has directed the respondent Dr Narendra Singh Yadav of the Yadav General Hospital, a private hospital of the town to pay a compensation of Rs 50,000 to the complainant, Mrs Deepa, wife of Rajnish, resident of the Old Tehsil Road locality here. The forum held the respondent guilty of providing negligent and deficient services as well as wrong advice to the complainant during her pregnancy. The compensation is to be paid by the respondent within a month following the pronouncement of the decision.

Besides the forum has also ordered the respondent to pay Rs 1,000 more to the complainant by way of her litigation charges.

It was a unanimous decision of the forum which comprised its president Mr O P Chopra and two members — Mrs R R Rathi and Mr Abhishek Jain.. The complainant, Mrs Deepa, filed a petition before the forum on October 23, 2000. According to the facts and circumstances given in the petition, Mrs Deepa had been having a pregnancy of about 36 weeks. On February 27, 2000, she went to the Yadav General Hospital where an ultrasound was conducted by Dr Narendra Singh Yadav who, in his report, clearly stated that the child is healthy. But when things did not go well with Deepa, she again consulted her doctor who advised her to go in for an additional ultrasound, now at the local Manohar Ultrasound Centre (MUC). She went there on March 2, 2000. To her shock, she found the MUC’s report quite contrary to that of Dr Narendra Singh Yadav.

Furthermore, when her condition grew serious abruptly, she was rushed to the Gujar Mal Modi Hospital on March 3, 2000, and the Research Centre at Modi Nagar, where the doctors referred her to AIIMS in which she was finally admitted on March 6, 2000. The treatment provided at the AIIMS ultimately saved her but her child could not be saved. The child was found dead in her abdomen.

Thus, she underwent an acute mental agony as well as great physical pain besides a huge unnecessary expenditure of about Rs 60,000 just on account of an ultrasound report which misguided her completely.

Sarpanch under suspension for embezzling funds
Our Correspondent

Sonepat, February 4
The Deputy Commissioner has placed Mr Satpal, sarpanch of Manoli Tonki village, under suspension on the charge of embezzling public funds and taking bribe from people at the time of allotment of newly built houses.

According to a report, the DC has also directed the Block Development and Panchayat Officer to call a meeting of the village panches for the appointment of an acting sarpanch immediately.

The DC’s action was a follow-up to the inquiry conducted by the former Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mr R. P. Bhardwaj, who held the sarpanch responsible for misuse of public funds and other irregularities. Thereafter, a criminal case was registered with the Kundli police for further action.

As many as 175 houses in the village had been burnt in a devastating fire on May 6 last year. Thereafter, the district administration had allotted Rs 14.68 lakh for the construction of 74 houses on humanitarian ground. This amount was handed over to the gram panchayat of the village and the sarpanch was authorised to allot the houses after their construction.

On December 13 last year, six residents of the village lodged a complaint and gave affidavits to the district authorities, levelling allegations of favouritism and nepotism against the sarpanch. They also alleged that the sarpanch had indulged in malpractices in the allotment of houses and sought bribe from them.

The then DC had asked Mr Bhardwaj to conduct a detailed inquiry into the complaint against the sarpanch and submit a report to him for taking action, if the sarpanch was found guilty of misusing public funds and indulging in malpractices in the allotment of houses.
