Sarpanch under suspension for embezzling funds Sonepat, February 4 According to a report, the DC has also directed the Block Development and Panchayat Officer to call a meeting of the village panches for the appointment of an acting sarpanch immediately. The DC’s action was a follow-up to the inquiry conducted by the former Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mr R. P. Bhardwaj, who held the sarpanch responsible for misuse of public funds and other irregularities. Thereafter, a criminal case was registered with the Kundli police for further action. As many as 175 houses in the village had been burnt in a devastating fire on May 6 last year. Thereafter, the district administration had allotted Rs 14.68 lakh for the construction of 74 houses on humanitarian ground. This amount was handed over to the gram panchayat of the village and the sarpanch was authorised to allot the houses after their construction. On December 13 last year, six residents of the village lodged a complaint and gave affidavits to the district authorities, levelling allegations of favouritism and nepotism against the sarpanch. They also alleged that the sarpanch had indulged in malpractices in the allotment of houses and sought bribe from them. The then DC had asked Mr Bhardwaj to conduct a detailed inquiry into the complaint against the sarpanch and submit a report to him for taking action, if the sarpanch was found guilty of misusing public funds and indulging in malpractices in the allotment of houses. |
