Athletics meet on February 8

Ludhiana, February 4
One-day Ludhiana District Athletics Meet for boys and girls (under-14, 16, 18 and 20) will be conducted here at the Guru Nanak Stadium on February 8. According to Mr D S Walia, President, Ludhiana District Amateur Athletic Association (DAAA), the interested boys and girls have been advised to report to Mr S.S. Pannu, athletics coach and organising secretary of this meet at 9 am at the venue.

Meanwhile, Mr O.S. Nagi, honorary general secretary, DAAA, has resented the decision of the Secretary, Sports, Punjab, which says that Rs 4,000 per day will be charged for organising any event at the stadium, auditorium and hall. This step will adversely effect the sports activities in the state as associations, conducting championships are already facing financial crunch and this will further add to their woes, Mr Nagi lamented.

Cricket tourney

As many as 12 teams have confirmed their participation in the second Sabina Cup Cricket Tournament to be organised by the Shant Tara College, Ahmedgarh, from February 6 to 8. Giving this information, Mr Amarjeet Singh Sidhu, Director of the college, said three matches had been slated for the first day of the tournament in which matches will be played on knock out basis.

Royal Cricket Club will take on Shanti Tara College, Shrayans Paper Mills play against Rajit Milk XI and Friends Club meet New Ludhiana Club. The winners of the meet will get a cash prize of Rs 7,100 while the runners up will receive a cash prize of Rs 4,100.

Sports fete

Sri Guru Hargobind Sports Club, Hathur, in collaboration with villagers today began its four days sports fete which included kabbadi open, football open and volleyball. The fete will continue till February 7. On the concluding day Kabbadi matches will be organised among the Sher-e-Punjab Academy, California, the Punjab State Electricity Board, Harjeet Talwar Club, Moga, International Club, Moga, and the winners will be honoured.

Cricket tournament

AHMEDGARH: Mr Amarjit Singh Sidhu, Director Shanti Tara College, Ahmedgarh, said second Sabina Cup Cricket Tournament would be organised at college campus from February 6 to 9. Mr Anil Kumar executive director, SIL, would inaugurate the tournament and Ms Razia Sultana MLA, would give away the prizes.

Athletics meet

KHANNA: The 51st athletic meet of A.S. College, Khanna, began at Madan Gopal Chopra Memorial Stadium here today. The two-day meet was inaugurated by Ms Harbans Kaur Dullo, MLA. The prizes will be distributed by Mr Jaspal Mittal, SDM, Khanna, on Wednesday on the concluding day at the meet.
