Farewell to KVM’s plus two students

Ludhiana, February 4
Keeping alive the custom of giving a warm farewell to the outgoing class, the students of Class XI today organised a get together for Class XII students. The students of Class XI gave a traditional welcome to the Principal, Ms Neena Khanna, the guest of honour, of the afternoon. Flowers were strewn all the way from the office to the hall.

The celebrations began with the havan where the principal joined the teachers in showering their blessings upon the students. The students expressed their gratitude by touching the feet of the principal.

The warmth of the Sun, the colourful attire of the students and a mesmerising music and dance made the day memorable. The crowd cheered and applauded when the selected students of the outgoing class cat walked for titles like Mr and Miss Best Dressed, Mr and Miss Elegant and Mr and Miss Beautiful Hair etc. The judges comprising the Principal, Vice-Principal and in charges had tough time selecting the best among them.

Soumisha of Class XII was declared Miss KVM and Manish Aggarwal was declared Mr KVM. Jasmeet Singh became Mr Elegant and Kangan Khangura was Miss Elegant. Aran was chosen Mr Popular. Ujjas and Varun Garg were Mr Scholar while Debushree was Miss Scholar. Mr Mischievous was Aikaj Jindal and Miss Mischievous was Chaisy Sethi. Rahul Batra and Megha Jain were Mr and Miss Etiquette. Rohan Dhir and Reema Nagpal were declared Mr and Miss Beautiful Hair. Abhishek was chosen

Mr Charming and Mirna Singh was Miss Charming. Vinay Sachdeva and Priyanka Grover were made Mr and Miss Graceful. Puneet Bedi and Sugandh were given the titles Mr and Miss Personality. Mr Best Dressed was Gurpreet Khair and Miss Best Dressed was Ambika.

Lecture on export marketing

The Department of Foreign Trade Practices and Procedures of Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College organised an extension lecture on the topic ‘Export Marketing- Procedures and Documentation’ here today.

The guest speakers were Mr Kamal Kant, Senior Manager, Exports, and Mr Chandan Giri, Senior Commercial Officer, Hero Cycles. Various aspects of export marketing, business strategies, pre-shipment and post-shipment documents, letter of credit, market and product selection procedures were covered during the lecture. Competition faced by the Indian industry from China were also discussed on the occasion.

It was an alternative lecture pertaining to various practical aspects of the export sector resulting in a successful blend of industrial and educational knowledge. Students were also shown sample of various documents used in exports. Prof Parneet Singh, Prof Mukta Kalra and Prof Gurpreet Kaur thanked the guest speakers.

GNIMT students excel

BCA students of the Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology (GNIMT), Gujarkhan Campus Model Town, have secured six positions among 10 top positions of 1997-2000 batch of the PTU. The positions are based on the overall total marks scored by the students in all six semesters. Although the results of the individual semesters of the batch were declared earlier, the overall merit list of the batch was issued only recently by Punjab Technical University.

The students of GNIMT brought laurels to the institute by securing second, fourth, fifth, sixth, 10th and tenth positions in the university. Mandeep Kaur Chawla secured second place in the university with 81.9 per cent marks, while Milly Gupta came fourth with 81 per cent marks. The fifth and sixth positions were bagged by Deepinderjeet Kaur and Rimjhim Gill with 80.7 per cent marks. They were followed by Harleen Chadha and Aanchal Aggarwal at eighth and 10th position, respectively, with 80.5 per cent and 79.5 per cent marks.

Dr A.S. Bansal, Director, GNIMT, appreciated the efforts of the students for their excellent achievement.

Declamation contest

Swami Vivekananda Study Circle celebrated an inter-school declamation contest on Vivekananda at Helianthus Day Boarding in Sunder Nagar here yesterday. Mr C.S.Talwar, the founder of the organisation, was the chief guest on the occasion. He inaugurated an exhibition on the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda.

In his address, Mr Talwar said the main aim of the study circle was to propagate Vivekananda’s message of love, compassion and tolerance. “The circle endeavours to revive the country’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage,” he added. Mr Rajesh Jain, the guest of honour, appreciated the efforts of the young boys and girls and exhorted them to spread meaningful thoughts among their friends. Mr S.K. Kapoor, Chief Manager, State Bank of India, Gill Road branch, said: “The younger generation is the target group. The circle will concentrate to create an awakening among the youth. In the age of crisis and transition, society needs an awareness of the country’s glorious tradition.”

Shahebpreet of KVM got the first prize in the declamation contest while Jaspreet of Shifaly Public School bagged the second prize. Third prize was shared by Gurleen of Saint Bawra School and Purnima Sharma of BCM School.
