Additional charge for Dr Dash
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, January 30
In a surprise move, the PGI today appointed Dr R.J. Dash, seniormost doctor and the head of the Endocrinology Department, as the Acting Superintending Hospital Engineer (SHE).

As per the orders of the PGI Director, Prof S.K. Sharma, Dr Dash will be assisted by the Hospital Engineer (Bio-medical), Mr P.S. Saini. Dr Dash has been made the acting Superintending Hospital Engineer till a new incumbent, an engineer, takes over the post.

The post fell vacant as the tenure of Mr G.S. Rosha, on deputation from the Chandigarh Housing Board, was over. The post of the Superintending Hospital Engineer has always been a deputation post, with Mr V.K. Bhardwaj from the Administration Engineering Department holding the post earlier.

Though the hunt for finding a replacement for Mr Rosha is on but Dr Dash’s appointment has come as a surprise. There has been a demand from the PGI employees from time to time that the post should be filled through promotion from within the PGI engineering wing. In fact, employees of the engineering wing wasted no time in criticising the appointment of Dr Dash, while at the same time welcomed Mr Saini being given extra responsibility.

The engineering wing of the PGI has remained in the thick of controversy, with CBI raids in July last year. There were allegations of irregularities in awarding contract for the construction of the advanced eye care centre and cardiac centre.
