152 bank officers donate blood

Chandigarh, January 27
The Canara Bank Officers’ Association, Chandigarh region, organised a blood donation camp in Sector 34-A on the occasion of Republic Day in association with the Blood Bank Society, PGI, Chandigarh, Mr Gurmeet Singh, district secretary of the association, said here today.

The camp was inaugurated by Mr Atul Kapoor, Regional Secretary of the association, and Mr P.G. Chawala, Deputy General Manager of the bank’s Chandigarh region.

Mr S. Ramjee, Assistant General Manager, was among the 152 members of the association who donated blood, with Mr Sudhakar Ahuja doing so for the 25th time. Among the donors were officers from Ludhiana, Patiala and Ambala.

Cycling championship held

Chandigarh, January 27
Gurnoor Kang of SD Public School, Sector 32, and Rohan Kakkar of Tender Heart School, Sector 33, stole the limelight by winning three titles in the Chandigarh State Cycling Championship held at Panjab University here last evening. Ajit Singh of DAV College, Sector 10, secured the first position in three events. Deepinder Singh of Tender Heart School, Sector 33, got the third position in three events in below-16 section.

The winners are (Men): Ajit Singh; (Women): Rupinder Kaur and Chetna: (Boys): Rohan Kakkar, Manmohan Singh, Govindpreet Singh, Gaurav, Vaibhav, Shakti Singh and Tejeshwar Singh; and (Girls): Gurnoor Kang and Ashi.

Meanwhile, nine boys and five girls have been selected for the eighth National Road Cycling Championship to be held at Kurukshetra.

The team is (Men): Ajit Singh; (Boys): Manmohan Singh, Rohan Kakkar, Rahul Anand, Dhanush, Vaibhav, Govindpreet Singh, Gaurav and Tejeshwar Singh; and (Women): Rupinder Kaur, Chetna; (Girls): Gurnoor Kang, Ashi and Amol.

Basketball championship: Chandigarh cagers moved up in both men and women sections on the opening day of the 53rd Senior National Basketball Championship which began in Hyderabad. As per reports reaching here, in men section, Chandigarh outplayed Assam 69-27 with half-time score of 37-15, while in women section, Chandigarh overpowered Rajasthan 58-14 with half-time score of 36-07.

PEC XI beat PFC XI: Satish Chaudhary helped his team, the Punjab Engineering College Employees Cricket Team, in beating Punjab Financial Corporation Employees team by 15 runs to clinch the title in the finals of the IXth Inter-Financial Invitational match played at PEC cricket ground here.

Brief scores: PEC XI: 164 for 8 in 30 overs (Satish Chaudhary 48 n.o., Rajesh Arora 29, Rajinder Chauhan 27, Manoj Arora 25, Pankaj 5 for 16, Dharam Deepak 3 for 25). PFC XI: 149 for 8 in 30 overs (Inderjit 44, Manoj 27, Pankaj 19, Surinder 2 for 18, Satish Chaudhary 2 for 26, Rajinder Chauhan 2 for 33, Tejinder Pal Singh 2 for 34).

Director Health is Licensing Authority

Chandigarh, January 27
The Director, Health Services, here, Dr C.P. Bansal, has been notified by the UT Administration as the Licensing Authority under the provisions of the Prevention of food adulteration rules.

According to an office order issued by the Health Department of the Administration, it has also been decided that Food Inspector M. K. Sharma, assisted by Food Inspector Jagmohan Singh, will “formulate the procedure to be followed to enforce the licensing provisions under the PFA Act”.
