Green Land shuttlers win u-14 title

The fourth CBSE National Badminton Tournament was held in New Delhi from January 2 to 6. Shuttlers of Green Land won the first prize in the under-14 category. It was for the first time that a team from Punjab won the championship at the national level.

Gurbax of Green Land defeated Kanishka Anand 15-2, 15-5. Ashutosh lost to Anil Kumar 11-15, 12-15. Ashutosh Prabhkar and Gurbax beat Kanishka and Anil 17-16, 15-12. The director of the school, Mr Rajesh Rudhra, presented Rs 5,000 to each sportsman. He congratulated coach Gian Inder Singh and presented him a cheque for Rs 10,000.

Hockey tourney: The three-day Mata Sahib Kaur hockey tournament and rural sports mela will be held at Jarkhar village from February 7 to 9. Top national-level hockey and kabaddi teams will take part. The Surjit Memorial Award will be presented to Dhanraj Pillay.

Best athletes: Jatinder Brar, student of class XI, and Jugraj Singh, student of class X, were adjudged best athletes among girls and boys during the annual sports meet of the Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, here on Friday. Shastri House bagged the overall trophy, while the second and the third spots were annexed by Nehru House and Tagore House, respectively.

Father Davis inaugurated the meet and Sister Sobel presided over the inaugural function. Participants were divided into four houses, Shastri, Nehru, Tagore and Gandhi. Earlier, Varun Garg, head boy, took oath on behalf of the participants to play games in the right spirit.
