CFC school takes part in knitting contest

Ludhiana, January 10
Students of CFC Public School, BRS Nagar, participated in a knitting contest. More than 120 students part in it. About two lakh students took from 1100 schools will take part in the contest.

Giving details, Mr V.K. Goyal, CEO, VSGM Ltd., said, “The contest is the largest of its kind and has made an entry into “Limca Book of Records — 2003 edition.” Besides, Jalandhar district, the contest is being organised in Ludhiana, Amritsar, Bhatinda, Ferozepore, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Patiala and Sangrur. The contest will also be organised in UP, Haryana, HP, Uttaranchal and Chandigarh as well.

Mr Harish Bhatia, Product Manager, VSGM, said they were receiving an excellent response from schools.

The knitting contest is being managed under the supervision of Mr Kulwinder Singh of Hemkunt Consultants Pvt Ltd. He said, “students from Class VI to class IX shall be eligible to participate in the contest. The contests will be organised at intra-school level and zonal inter school level. The participants will knit a pattern of their choice in one-and-a-half on the spot knitting contest.” Joydeep, Ruby, Ashu (VI), Shikha, Rashmi, Tania (VII), Rohit, Panica, Amninder, Jasmeet (VIII) Sanmeet, Harveen, Pooja IX were declared the winners of today’s contest. Ms Kourth, Principal, CFC Public School, appreciated the efforts of the VSGM in the field of hand-knitting.

The three best entries from each category per school will be eligible for zonal level contest.

Swami Vivekanand’s birthday celebrated

Ludhiana, January 10
The SDP College for Women, celebrated the birthday of Swami Vivekanand as National Youth Day here today by organising a function on the college campus. Ms Surinder Kaur, Head, Department of Music (Vocal) was the chief guest. The students expressed their views through very inspiring speeches and self-composed poems.

Aaditi of B.A. (III) and Pooja (B. Com-III) spoke on “Youth — The Dream of New World”. Shruti (B. Com-II) and Balwinder Kaur (B.A. III) presented self-composed poems “Youth” and “New Revolution”. Through these speeches and poems, speakers appealed to the students to come forward to put an end to all evils prevalent in our society so that our dream of happy, prosperous and peaceful nation may be converted into reality.

The students of Department of Music (Vocal) presented a group song-”Ekta ke swar milkar jab khiley, jhoomey gagan, gay pawan, karvan chaley” . The programme was organised by Ms Gopa Gupta, in charge youth activities and Ms Asha Aneja.

KVM student clears Maths Olympiad

Varun Jindal of the KVM is one of the 30 candidates from all over Punjab who have cleared the Mathematics Olympiad examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education on December 1, 2002.

Lauding his performance, the principal of the school, Mrs Neena Khanna, said that Varun Jindal will now be participating in the Indian National Mathematics Olympia as a member of the CBSE group on February 2, 2003. Prior to the main examination, Varun has to attend a four-day enrichment camp organised by the CBSE at Manav Sthali School in New Delhi.

Teacher gets bail

Ludhiana: A government teacher accused of doing private tuitions was on Friday granted bail. He was arrested by the Vigilance Bureau on Monday, following the registration of an FIR against him under Sections 13(1) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Mr Inderjit Kaushik, Additional Sessions Judge, granted bail to Varinder Kumar, a teacher of Government Senior Secondary School, Bilaspur. The court directed to release the accused on his furnishing a surety of Rs 30,000 and a surety before the CJM or Illaqa Magistrate, Ludhiana. Officials of the Vigilance Bureau had nabbed him from his residence in LIG flats, Dugri. The accused had pleaded in his bail application that he was not engaged in tuition work. However, kids of the colony came to him for guidance, but he had been doing that free of cost, he maintained. OC
