L&C Sector corner glory

Log and Communication (L&C) Sector, Chandigarh, cornered glory on the final day of the 22nd inter-Sector athletics meet of Indo- Tibetan Border Force which came to close this evening at Bhanu (near Panchkula) here today. L&C won the overall position among the eight sectors. N.Chauba Singh of L&C was also adjudged the best athlete. Mr R.C. Agarwal, Director General, ITBP, was the chief guest and gave away the prizes. In this meet, athletes from eight sectors of the ITBP such as, J&K I, J&K II, HP Sector, Kumaon Sector, Garhwal sector, L & C Sector, Training Sector and Leh Sector took part.

Mr N. Thangaiyan, DG, BTC highlighted the achievements of the force.

Other results : 20 km walk — Chander Singh 1, Major Singh 2, W Rattan Kumar 3; pole vault — Oshana Tumba 1, Prakash Singh 2, B Suresh Babu 3; 3000 chase race: Vidhan Tameng 1, Chinder Singh 2, Bansi Lal 3; decathlon — Oshana Tumba 1, Mahavir Singh 2, Virender Pundir 3; 100m — N Chauba Singh 1, Bhanu Shanker 2, Suresh Patil 3; 400m — Bhim Singh 1, Kashmir Singh 2, Tejbir Singh 3; 4 x 100 relay — Bhanu Shanker, Suresh Chand Ram and Ritu Raj 1, N Chauba Singh, Oshan, Dhruv and Surender 2, and Rajeev, Surender, Bhim and Johan 3.

GMSSS-22 to have concrete b’ball court

A concrete basketball court will be developed at the Sector 22 Government Model Senior Secondary School, GMSSS, Sector 22, the money for which will be provided by local Member of Parliament Pawan Kumar Bansal out his MP ‘s fund. This was stated by Mr Bansal while addressing students at the school during the institute’s annual prize distribution function.

Starting with Saraswati Vandana, several cultural items were presented by students on the occasion. These included dandia, nursery rhymes, a couple of Punjabi songs, a Hindi group song and a skit titled Meeri Neend Ud Gaye Hai.

As many as 180 prizes for academic excellence and another 75 for performance in sports were given to students. Earlier, the principal, Mr Dilbag Singh, read out the school’s annual report. The PTA president, Mr N.S. Saini, appraised the gathering of various projects undertaken by the PTA during the year.

Maths quest result: The results of the Big Aunty’s Mathematics Quest, organised by New Public School, on December 14, were declared today. The first three winners are Raghu Mahajan (St Stephen’s School), Suhail Singh Shergill (Bhawan Vidalaya) and Khyati (Hansraj Public School), respectively. Fortyeight students from various schools had participated in the quest, which was open to students of Class X. Only two entries per school were allowed.

PUDA auction fetches Rs 4.5 crore

The PUDA auction of some of its commercial sites in the town fetched Rs 4.5 crore today. The auctioned nine-shop-cum office and shop-cum-flat sites are located in Sectors 65 and 70.

The total number of sites scheduled to be auctioned today were 18 but only half of these were auctioned as the rates being offered dwindled after a while and the PUDA authorities decided to hold on to the rest of the sites. The lowest price was fetched by a shop-cum-flat site in Sector 65 which sold at a little over Rs 40 lakh while the highest amount of Rs 52 lakh was paid for a shop-cum-office site in Sector 70.
