Medical Supt redesignated
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, January 8
The Union Health Ministry has finally re-designated PGI Medical Superintendent Dr A.K. Gupta as Professor in Hospital Administration, a request which had been pending with the ministry for a long period.

It was a rather long wait for the Medical Superintendent as despite the matter coming up for discussion during the last two Governing Body meetings, a decision could not be taken.

With a section of staff opposing granting of Professor rank to Dr Gupta, the Governing Body, at its last meeting on December 12, had decided to leave the matter to the Union Health Minister, Mr Shatrughan Sinha.

The issue had generated a lot of controversy before the last Governing Body meeting. Despite clear directions, the matter was not included on the agenda. It was at the last-minute intervention of the Health Ministry that the matter was included as a table agenda item.
