Chandigarh, January 8
Sabeeha Dhillon, the star rifle shooter and a student of local MCM DAV College for
women, Sector 36, has been chosen by the National Rifle Association of India to take part in masters Shooting Meet to be held at the Tughlakabad Shooting ranges, New Delhi, from January 28. This meet, initiated for the first time in India, aims at providing exposure to the top six shooters of the country in each event by the NRAI. During a recent visit by Mr Baljit Singh Sethi, Secretary General, NRAI, to the city during the closing ceremony of the Northern India Shooting, Meet he had told Chandigarh Tribune that they wanted to have competition for the top-rank shooters so that they could select best team for any world-level meet.
Sabeeha had been dropped by the Punjab Rifle Shooting Association in the 32nd National Games at Hyderabad at the last moment in the 10-metre air rifle event. She had been regularly practicing ever since she returned from Hyderabad. Sabeeha had surprised everybody last year in the 31st National Games at SAS Nagar by giving a shift challenge to Olympian Anjali Ved Pathak and securing bronze medal in the senior women section at the age of 18. On her forthcoming Masters Meet, she said the meet would be quite exciting as all top-rank women shooters like Anjali, Anuja Tere will be there.
Sabeeha said before going to the event, she had to prove her worth in the Panjab University Inter-College Shooting Meet at SAS Nagar from January 19.
Sabeeha who had secured 65 per cent marks in BA first year said though she wanted to prepare for her final examination due in April, the national camp
beginning February 6 at Bangalore was equally vital for her future selection. Sabeeha says she practices for nearly three
hours at a 10-metre shooting range in her Sector 33 residence.
