ITBP athletics meet begins

Chandigarh, January 7
The 22nd Inter-Sector Athletics Meet of the Indo- Tibetan Border Police Force was opened today at Basic Training Centre, Bhanu, 22 km from here. The four-day meet was declared opened by Mr K.J. Singh, Additional Director-General, ITBP, who later took the salute in a march past by athletes. Pigeons were also released, besides volley of shots by LMG and colourful balloons. Mr N. Thangaiyan, DIG, ITBP for allotting the meet to BTC, Bhanu.

Nearly 300 athletes from eight sectors of the ITBP, J&K-I, J&K II, HP, GWL, KMN, L&C, Leh and Training Sector are participating.

The results of the today’s competitions are: 1500-m race: CHGD Satpal Singh 1, HC GD Rajbeer Singh 2 and CHGD Harish Singh 3; and 4x400m relay: L&C sector 1, HP sector 2 and Training Range 3.

The Mohali Cricket Association will hold the Third SAS Nagar Inter-School Cricket Tournament for the Sardar MS Majithia Memorial Trophy from January 12. All schools located in the SAS Nagar will be eligible to take part. The tournament will be of 40 overs a side. Entries close at 1 pm on January 10.

According to Mr G.S. Walia, its secretary, the tournament has been sponsored by Paragon School, SAS Nagar, in the memory of Sardar M.S. Majithia. The matches will be played in the MCA grounds, PCA Stadium, SAS Nagar.
