“The present system of education is based on senseless and rote learning and is giving sleepless nights to mothers which is an important reason of ongoing stress among school-going children,” said Dr Rajeev Gupta, city-based psychiatrist during the 56th orientation course in Ramgarhia Girls College yesterday.

This talk was part of UGC-sponsored programme for the college and university lecturers. Dr Gupta stated that overworked mothers were becoming victim to the rising levels of stress and in most of the cases it was the chronic and ongoing stress that led to insomnia, restlessness, anxiety, undue fear, tensions, bodyaches, migraine, irritability, depression, high blood pressure and gastric ailments. He said that it was important to get rid of the effects of the daily stress by regular exercise, meditation, yoga, entertainment and socialisation, because once it got accumulated, it could flare up over trifle reasons and person had to suffer from its bad consequences.

Dr Gupta said that today most of women were overburdened since they easily accepted more responsibilities and many women felt shy or guilty of asking their husbands to share the responsibilities. He said that unless women came out of this self made trap, they were bound to experience more stress and strain.
