Neuro Dept gets ambulance
Our Correspondent

Chandigarh, December 28
The Department of Neurology at the PGI has been donated an ambulance by Mr K.C. Gupta. The ambulance shall be instrumental in helping patients of stroke to reach the PGI Emergency and relieve treatment by the brain attack team.

The ambulance has been donated under the stroke programme which was initiated this year under the guidance of Dr S. Prabhakar. The aim of this programme is to treat patients of acute stroke (brain attack).

The stroke helpline (9814509008) launched in August received an overwhelming response from the public. However, despite the stroke helpline a small number of patients could reach the hospital within the stipulated timeframe of three hours.

The ambulance, would be most useful once it is equipped with the monitoring equipment which might make it possible for treatment to be started even before the patient reaches the hospital.
