Eversest school celebrates annual day

Ludhiana, December 27
The annual day function of Everest Public Senior Secondary School, Moti Nagar, was held here. Mrs Hardyal Kaur, Vice-Chairperson, Punjab School Education Board, was the chief guest. She distributed prizes to the meritorious students of the school. Later addressing the students, she told them hard work, dedication and diligence were the keys to success.

The school programme started with Saraswati Vandana followed by rendering of a shabad. The colourful Rajasthani and Haryanvi dances were well appreciated. Dandiya of Gujarat also won a lot of applause. The students also presented ‘Saare Jahan Se Accha’.

The director of the school, Mr Rajinder Sharma, highlighted the achievements of the school while Principal Asha Sharma read out the annual report. Mr Nahar Singh Gill, Mayor, was also present.

ST exemption sought

Mr K. S. Budhiraja, vice-president of the Punjab Ball Bearing Distributors Association, has demanded that the ball bearings be exempted from 4.4 per cent sales tax. He said the ball bearings were used in various machineries mostly used in the farm sector. Mr Budiraja said the sales tax burden fell on the farmers only and in case the ST was withdrawn it would directly benefit the farmers. He pointed out, since Punjab economy was too much dependent on agriculture and providing relief to this sector will help the economy.
