The acquaintances and relatives of the victims committed most of the rapes and it is the educated and well-employed married men who indulge in eve-teasing, these facts were reiterated by the Delhi Police Commissioner, Mr R S Gupta, today.

Delhi cops wiser after Dec 13 strike

The Delhi Police arrested 38 Pakistani militants and killed eight in various encounters in 2002 and for the first time in several years, the Capital remained free from any terrorist strike, Police Commissioner Radhey Shyam Gupta said today.

Grid failure hits life in Panipat
Panipat, December 26
The failure of the Northern Grid in the early hours today paralysed the normal life in the city today. With the grid failing, the production of electricity in the Tau Devi Lal Thermal Power Station came to a standstill and the city was plunged into darkness.

BJP slams cases against Haryana party leaders

Mr Om Parkash Dhankar, national secretary of the BJP, has decried the registration of criminal cases against the BJP leaders and activists by the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) Government on ‘flimsy’ ground and warned that if the harassment of the party workers was not stopped immediately, the BJP would be forced to take drastic action against the state government.

The Haryana Pradesh Janata Dal (U) president, Mr Ved Parkash Vidrohi, has alleged that the packages announced by the Central Government for the drought-hit farmers exist only on paper. The farmers have not received any financial assistance so far in Haryana or elsewhere in the country.

One killed as three-wheeler collides with bike
Sonepat, December 26
One person was killed on the spot and another sustained serious injuries when a three-wheeler collided with a motorcycle near Khandrai village about 45 km from here last evening.

Ghaziabad
Four bodies have been recovered in the Garh Mukteshwar area. While two bodies, apparently of youths, bore strangulation marks the two others appear to have been run over by a train. However, none of the bodies could be identified by the police. The bodies were found in a field in Saroorpur village.

The Noida police today foiled a robbery bid by four burglars and recovered goods worth Rs. 2.5 lakh from them. Interrogation revealed that they had sold the stolen goods to a rag-picker, who was subsequently arrested by the police.

Looking at the shortage of new coins and the problem of exchange of soiled and mutilated notes in the market, Punjab National Bank launched a special campaign and distributed new currency, new coins and exchanged mutilated notes worth Rs 88 lakh through its 21 branches in different parts of Delhi.
