Pro-rape victim Bill passed
New Delhi, December 16
Amidst increasing incidence of rape, Parliament today approved a Bill seeking to bar cross-examination of a rape victim on her character with the Rajya Sabha approving the measure by a voice vote. Replying to the Indian Evidence (Amendment) Bill, 2002, Minister of State for Law, Ravi Shankar Prasad said the government would bring a comprehensive legislation, covering measures to check crime against women, based on the recommendations of a committee. The House also passed the Representation of the People (Amendment) Bill, 2002, without a discussion. PTI

Two BJP MLAs held
Chennai, December 16
Two BJP MLAs, along with 100 volunteers, were arrested today and later released for obstructing traffic. Mr K.N. Lakshmanan and Mr H. Raja, along with BJP volunteers, gathered near May Day Park in the busy Chintadripet area here for celebrating the party’s victory in the Gujarat Assembly poll. After allowing them to burst crackers, the police arrested and took them to a nearby police station. PTI
