Health Minister’s statement flayed
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, December 16
The state unit of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) at its executive meeting held here today opposed the statement of Health Minister R.C. Dogra regarding constituting a regulatory authority to monitor the functioning of private hospitals and nursing homes in the state.

IMA members said when the previous governments had realised that the debacle of Indian industry was inspector raj, the Punjab Government was planning to get rid of it and trying to open a single-window scheme. The statement was ridiculous, said Dr Gursharan Singh, president, local unit, IMA. They demanded that even the government institutes should be covered under the legislation.

Six jhuggis demolished
Tribune News Service

Ludhiana, December 16
The district administration today demolished at least six jhuggis at Baba Jiwan Singh Nagar. A team of four patwaris, a kanungo and policemen asked the owners to remove the jhuggis themselves or face a case of criminal trespass.

While the owners pulled down the jhuggis on their own, one that was constructed recently, was left untouched, as it ‘belonged to a worker of a local politician’.

Ms Bhavna Garg, SDM, however, refuted the allegation. She said the person had recently made a make-shift arrangement with a tarpaulin sheet and not built a pucca house.

An FIR has already been registered against the owner for allegedly occupying the land illegally under Sections 447, 511, 506 and 34 of the IPC.
