Schoolgirls take to self-defence

A 21-day self-defence technique workshop for girl students, which was conducted by the West district police in association with the Forum for Social Justice, came to an end on November 25 with the schoolgirls displaying spectacular performance after the completion of the training.

The workshop was conducted for girl students of Senior Secondary Girls School in Subhash Nagar. They were imparted training in breaking burning bricks with their bare hands apart from other self-defence techniques to handle eve-teasing and physical violation.

A total number of 35 girl students from 9th to 12th standard completed the training. They were given away certificates by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), Mr Dependra Pathak.

The girls said that after completing the training they felt more confident in dealing with miscreants on the road. The girls were also given awareness on legal aspects. There was also an interaction session where the girl students had discussion with the police officers and others on how best they could handle situations when they were unsafe. A number of girls also came forward to enrol themselves for the next self-defence workshop.

‘Dreams in Silk’ from Deepam includes the all time favourite Kanjeevarams with hand weaving; the elegant zari and sequinned work on georgette, crepes and chiffon visible in vibrant colours for that universal appeal. Intricate hand-woven embroidery, Swarovski-studded crystals and real gold thread work on pure silk saris completes this new collection from Deepam Silks.

Trendy warm wraps

A ramp-sizzler in  ‘Dreams in silk’Pashmina whether as the traditional shawl or worn as the contemporary wrap is the hottest accessory for the chilly winter months. Le Pashmina, makers of the contemporary wraps, showcased for the Delhiites a winter collection.

The evening began with an audio-visual show interspersed with fashion sequences in the historical backdrop of the Qutub Minar. Six fashion-forward looks were showcased by eight of the country’s leading models including Laxmi Rana, Udita Goswami and Roxanne Smith.

The range covers a wide spectrum of looks - from exquisite cashmere shawls to the trendy silk hand paints and leather accessories. ‘Knits’, the category has shawls in the form of cashmere knits in basic styles. Light in weight, there are sweaters that allow the skin to breathe.

The ‘Wrap & Weft’ collection features a wide array of weaves, from the evergreen herringbone to our lightweight breeze stripe. These shawls are eye-catching and comfortable besides being functional, warm and stylish.
