Haryana annex boxing title

New Delhi, November 17
Haryana won the team championship collecting 41 points in the first All-India Junior Boxing Championship, which concluded at the Indira Gandhi indoor stadium. Services Sports Control Board finished second with 37 points while Punjab took the third place with 20 points. Delhi were fourth with 12 points while Himachal Pradesh took the fifth position. Vijender Singh of Haryana won the best boxer award while Nadeem Khan of Uttaranchal was declared the best loser.

Vijender Singh of Haryana lifted the 60kg gold, when he overwhelmed M. K. Sawant of Services Sports Control Board (SSCB), with the referee stopping the contest.

Sanjay Kolte of SSCB, who had won a medal in the recently held World Cadet Junior Boxing Championship in Hungary, outpointed Vikrant Shiva of Himachal Pradesh to bag the 48kg title. In the 51-kg bout, Sah Abhishek of Delhi beat Dileep K. Pouri of SSCB on points. Kapil Kumar of Haryana scored a close victory against Nadeem Khan of Uttaranchal in the 54-kg category while national champion Jai Bhagwan of Punjab won the 57-kg title, beating Sonu Chahal of Haryana, with the referee stopping the contest.

Sawan Kumar of Haryana beat Venkatesh of SSCB in the 63.5-kg final bout while Surender of Haryana handed out heavy punishment to Ranjit Singh of Punjab, forcing the referee to intervene and stop the contest in the 67-kg final. Another Haryana pugilist, Radhey, walked away with the 71-kg gold when he outgunned Anil Kumar of SSCB.

National champion Naveen of Haryana beat Tarun Verma of Delhi to annex the 75-kg title. Vinod Sumra of SSCB beat Bhalinder Singh of Punjab in the 81kg final, with the referee stopping the contest. Vinod Kumar of SSCB won the 91-kg bout, beating Pankaj Attri of Haryana.

EIL trounce Rajani Gandha

Engineers India Ltd (EIL) trounced Rajani Gandha Club by 91 runs in a DDCA A-I Division League match at the Yamuna Sports Complex ‘A’ ground.

Scores: EIL: 152 all out in 39.4 overs (Munish Jolly 69, Chattar Singh 46, Mukesh Mehta 3 for 20, Lalit Dudeja 3 for 38).

Rajani Gandha: 61 all out in 21.3 overs (Munish Jolly 3 for 21, Anuj Sharma 3 for 7).

Young Delhi Club beat Pioneer Club by four wickets in an A-I Division match at Kotla No 2 ground.

Scores: Pioneer Club: 213 all out in 33 overs (Umesh Sharma 38, Ashok Lamba 35, Sandeep Sharma 31, Rama Shankar 2 for 38, Sanjay Kumar 3 for 43).

Young Delhi: 217 for 6 in 35 overs (Puneet Berry 73 n o, 7x4, 3x6; Dev Dutt 31 n o, Sunil Setti 3 for 30).

Essex Farms beat Rani Bagh by five wickets in an AI Division League at Kotla No 1 ground.

Scores: Rani Bagh Club: 147 all out in 39.1 overs (Ajay Dhiman 30, Ajay Sharma 24, Naresh Kumar 26, Mukesh Marwah 4 for 19, Harish Bansal 3 for 14). Essex Farms: 148 for 5 in 26.4 overs (Mukesh Marwah 44, Sareen Bansal 38, Ajay Sharma 3 for 23).

Spectramind beat Reckitt

Spectramind Eservices defeated Reckitt Benckiser by 70 runs in a league match of the Eventus Cup Cricket Tournament played at the Airport Authority ground.

Scores: Spectramind Eservices: 147 all out in 23.3 overs (C V Venkatraman 53, 58b, 4x3; Deepak Sharma 22, Samiran Sengupta 4 for 30, Nalin Sood 3 for 27). Reckitt Benckiser: 77 all out in 22.5 overs (Nalin Sood 32, Siddarth Thakur 5 for 15, Deb Sengupta 2 for 16). Siddharth Thakur was adjudged the man of the match.

Radhey Shyam Gupta hit a crackling 82, studded with eleven fours and two sixes, to help Delhi Blues Club beat K N Colts by 52 runs and entered the quarter-final of the Triveni Devi Memorial Cricket Tournament for the M S Trophy at the Mohan Meakins ground, Mohan Nagar. Radhey Shyam Gupta was presented the Mishra Sports Man of the Match award.

Scores: Delhi Blues: 230 for 4 in 40 overs (Radhey Shyam Gupta 82, Mridul Gupta 51, Tarun Gupta 38, Nishant Sharma 2 for 33). K N Colts: 178 all out in 33.4 overs (Bharat Dhuper 57, Nishant Sharma 44, Tarachand 41, Pradeep Jain 3 for 29, Tarun Gupta 3 for 39).

Dhampur Cup Cricket

A fine half century by Raja Gurmeet Singh (56, 7x4, 1x6) and 47 with eight fours and one six by Naveen Sharma helped Jay Rapid Rolls beat Tribeg Wears by three wickets and entered the semi-final of the Dhampur Cup Cricket Tournament at the Gargi College ground.

Scores: Tribeg Wears: 170 for 6 in 25 overs (Dennis 64, Rohit 27, Angad 2 for 15).

Jay Rapid Rolls: 171 for 7 in 20.2 overs (Gurmeet Singh 56, Naveen Sharma 47, Sandeep Pathaniya 30, John 4 for 19).

Delhi Roller Skating

The 31st Delhi State Roller Skating Championship will be held at the Talkatora Skating Rink from November 21 to 24. The events will include artistic skating, speed skating, and roller hockey. Entries close with Naresh Sharma and Prtti Singh at phones 3643052, 5773749. The State Championship will be the selection trials to pick players for the National Games.

New Delhi, November 17
Hosts Noida College of Physical Education (NCPE), Noida, retained both the men’s and women’s team titles in the Chaudhry Charan Singh Judo Championship in Meerut. Noida College kept custody of the women’s trophy for the fourth year in succession while the men made it a three-in-a-row title contest.

Noida College men annexed seven gold and logged 35 points. DGC College, Baraut won two silver and two bronze medals to secure the second position on eight points.

Meerut College lifted two silver and one bronze medal to secure third position.

In the women’s section, Noida College won four gold and three silver medals to log 29 points.

MMH College, Ghaziabad, won a gold, a silver and three bronze medals to finish second on 11 points. Meerut College won one gold and one silver medal to emerge third.

In an interesting bout, Viram Sharma of Noida outpointed Ravi Yadav of Meerut in the 56-kg category. Richa Singh of Noida defeated Neetu Gupta of Meerut College through a full point throw (ippon).

Gymnastic coach Rajender Singh Pathania inaugurated the championships.

AIFF invites five Delhi players

The All-India Football Federation (AIFF) has invited five Delhi players for selection-trials-cum-camp for the under-14 team, slated to participate in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Festival Football to be held in Kathmandu (Nepal).

The trials will be held at the Tata Football Academy in Jamshedpur from November 25 to 27. The players invited are: Mohd Arid (Mamta Model School), Som Nath (Apex Public School), Pronoy Roy (Don Bosco), Kul Bhushan (Moti Bagh) and Darryl Robinson (St. Columa’s).
