AMID the residences of Sector 41, lies the imposing looking building of Ajit Karam Singh International School. At closer look, it is not the building that inspires awe, butwhat it stands for - a symbol quality education. Eversince its inception in 1983 by National Educational Development Trust in 1983, the school has been faithfully following the dream of one of the greatest educationists of all time - late Ms.Ajit Karam Singh. The vision and efforts of late Ajit Karam Singh , the founder, took shape as International Public School - an institute to develop the children in such a way so as to make them morally upright, intellectually well informed, socially concerned, emotionally balanced and physically developed. The name of the school was later changed to Ajit Karam Singh International Public School in the fond memory of the founder, but the goal remained the same. About 1500 students under the guidance of 54 staff members have been following the guidelines set by its founder. The school now imparts education to the students from pre nursery to class X with a plan to add Plus II in commerce and medial and non medical streams from the next session. AKSIPS is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for the All India Secondary School Examination and the All India Senior Secondary School Examination under the new pattern of 10+ 2. Overall, the education ladder consists of three years of pre -primary,eight years of primary and upper primary, two years of secondary and two years of senior secondary education. Equipped with audio visual aids and computers, the management authority has left no stone unturned to make learning a pleasurable experience for all. But the main strength of the school remains in its participatory nature of teaching. Keeping parallel with academic part, the school has formulated a sound programme of physical education that includes - gymnastics, yoga, karate, aerobics, table tennis and host of outdoor games. No education is complete without imbibing a sense of social responsibility. AKSIPS has set up an example in this direction by adopting Kajheri Night School in which the Trust has not only appointed two permanent teachers but provides a chance to their own students to work towards the upliftment of the under privileged children.

‘We develop personality through interactive education’ MRS. Jagjit Shekhon believes in tackling problems head on. So be it a personal problem or academic, one can head straight to her room for a heart to heart. And true to her word, she keeps her door open to all, ready to share one's problems and ready with suggestions if saught. This attitude Mrs. Sekhon, Principal of AKSIPS has made the school atmoshphere open and free, making the education system more interactive, involving students, teachers and parents on the same platform. On education system: Our education system is too theoritical which is not enough to develop a child's overall personality. And to achieve that the teaching community has to open itself to the students and make education more interactive so that the children can openly discuss their problems and overcome their short coming. On the counselling system With the rise of nuclear family system in our society, more and more problems are cropping up in households, and affecting the academic side of the child in the bargain. So having a proper counselling cell in each school has resumed more significance as education can thrive only through a sound mind. On the tution menace With high level comeptitions rulling the life, little wonder that almost everyone are going to get as much extra help as they can get. But if the parents insists on regularity and keeps tab on their progress, they would not have to spend thousands of rupess on tutions. And it is not only the money aspect which is bad about tutions but the long hours spent on them, have drastically reduced time limit for the students to pursue their creative side. On the future plan of school AKSIPS is going expand itself with a big bang, for the school is not just upgrading itself to Plus 2 standard in commerce, medical and non medical, butwe are adding two more schools in the next year - one in Chandigarh and another one in Mohali. Infact the Trust propeses to have ten more AKSIPS within the next ten years, not only in the city but in the remote areas on Punjab as well.

I feel proud to be one of the many lucky students who are studying in this prestigious institude AKSIPS. My school has always tried to live upto the tradition of giving quality education and standing up strongly by its motto - "education is life'. Here education does not mean just bookish knowledge but an all round development through active participation in extra carricular activities liker debate, declamation, summer workshop, quiz and excurssion which prevent the school routine from becoming monotonous. The best part of my school is that, the students and teachers are not two separate entities, strictly separated by formalities but shares a commonness and intimacy which makes the entire school into a huge family. The teachers are strict disciplinarian, loving and a source of inspiratuion at the same time. I am sure under the able guidance of the management, my school will continue to receive many more laurels in the days to come. —Jaspreet Kaur, class X |

Max Van gets fans to play and win Chandigarh, November 17 The Max van passed through set routes all through this day beginning from the hottest spot of Chandigarh — the Sector 17 market where the van landed between 9 am and 10.30 am. Picking up people from there, the van passed through a pre-decided route — Sector 22 market, Sector 40 market, followed by Sector 39 and Sector 38 West market. Interestingly, Chandigarh is the third city where this unique promotion is being held and the City Beautiful will further be followed up with other important cities in November and December. With colourful posters of some of the hottest Bollywood heroes and heroines lacing its exterior, the van could not be missed at all. The van had a huge screen at the back, showing clippings of the blockbusters and movie programming that Max has in store for the viewers. The most happening area was the wheel of fortune game in which the fans participated whole-heartedly. The questions asked centred around famous film stars and their movies. The van is going around spreading three words — Play and win (Kheliye aur jitiye). The prizes are attractive and the spirit of the people remained high throughout the day, as the van became a hit wherever it went. The youngsters came forward to try some excitement which India’s prime movie, cricket and event channel was here to bring. The van will tour other areas of Chandigarh tomorrow. The route it will take tomorrow will be markets of Sector 44, Mohali Phases 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, Sector 71 and then Malay market. Day after, the route will centre in Panchkula where the van will cover sectors 4, 6, 7, 11, 16, Chandi Mandir and finally Mani Majra. The idea behind the van is to provide the Max viewers with a sneak preview of the events to feature on the channel. The van has been especially designed to reflect Max’s programming of events. |
