Quake jolts north Japan
Tokyo, November 3
An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale hit wide areas in northern Japan today, but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties. An earthquake of that magnitude is strong enough to cause heavy damage to the buildings. The quake, which struck at 12.37 p.m., was centred in the Pacific Ocean off Miyagi Prefecture, about 400 km north of Tokyo. The Meteorological Agency said there was no concern about the quake triggering a “tsunami” or tidal wave. Reuters

Veerappan sends 4th cassette
Mysore, November 3
Forest brigand Veerappan, who had abducted former Karnataka minister H. Nagappa on August 25 has sent his fourth cassette to the Karnataka Government. Mr Nagappa’s family at Kamagere in Chamarajanagara district confirmed the receipt of the cassette. UNI
