Salwan Boys School keep Parle Cup

New Delhi, October 20
Salwan Boys School beat Hans Raj Model School by 122 runs to retain the Parle Cup Inter-School Under-17 Cricket Tournament title for the third year in a row at the Bharat Nagar ground.

In an engrossing two-day final match, Salwan Boys scored 241 for 7 off 50 overs in the first innings and 197 for no loss off 30 overs in the second innings while Hans Raj Model School could manage only 173 for 5 in 50 overs in the first innings and 143 for 3 off 30 overs in the second innings. Asian Games wrestling gold medallist Satpal, who is the deputy director of sports, Delhi Government, gave away the prizes. Delhi and District Cricket Association sports secretary Sunil Dev and Delhi Ranji Trophy captain Vijay Dahiya were also present.

Gaurav Sharma was adjudged the man of the match and the best batsman of the tournament while Gaurav Chabra got the man of the tournament award. Sahil Arora was adjudged the best bowler.

Salwan Boys were awarded a cash prize of Rs 15,000 while Hans Raj School received Rs 9000.

Scores: Salwan Boys School (first innings): 241 for 6 (Gaurav Chabra 98, 5x4, 1x6, 130b; Gaurav Sharma 52, 6x4, 80b; Narender Singh 23, Maninder Singh 22, Ankur Garg 2 for 37). Second innings: 197 for no loss in 30 overs (Gaurav Sharma 102 n o, 11x4, Shikhar Dhawan 88 n o, 7x4). Hans Raj Model School (first innings): 173 for 5 in 50 overs (Manu Sharma 53, Abhishek Gulati 30 n o, Ashutosh Sharma 2 for 48). Second innings: 143 for 3 in 30 overs (Sahil Arora 47, Onant Jai Singh 24, Neeraj Bansal 20).

Shastri Club drub Collegians

Shastri Club drubbed Collegians 2-0 in an A Division Super League match of the Delhi Soccer Association (DSA)-SAIL Open Clubs Football League

Championship at Ambedkar Stadium on Sunday. After a barren first half, Shastri Club opened the account through Amit Gurang in the 37th minute when he headed home, off a cross from inside left Michel from the left flank.

Substitute Migma, who replaced Ram Singh, scored the second goal in the 41st minute, off a solo effort. Shastri striker Zulfikar Ahmed and Collegians’ Mumtagull were shown the yellow card by referee Julius Ceaser for rough play.

Raisina Sports muffed umpteen chances before settling for a 1-0 victory against Hans Club. Inside-right Praduth Jana scored the match-winner in the 15th minute following a goal-mouth melee. But forwards Sameer Singh, Jana himself and Arun Rakshit were guilty of muffing at least half a dozen chances. Praduth Jana and Ved Prakash of Raisina received the yellow-card treatment for intemperate behaviour.

Rohini Club were held to a 1-1 draw by Panchkuian in a B Division match at the Nehru Stadium East ground. Anjan Chakravorthy put Rohini in the lead in the 13th minute while Surinder Bisht equalised for Panchkuian in the 55th minute.

New Friends and Paschim Heroes played a 1-1 draw. Sachin scored for New Friends in the 16th minute while Deepak Bisht equalised for Paschim Heroes.

UCS, Rohtak, win CBSE TT tourney for girls

Rohtak, October 20
University Campus School (UCS), Rohtak, won the overall championship for girls in the CBSE Cluster IX Table Tennis tournament which concluded recently at Summer Fields School Gurgaon. Blue Bells Modern School Gurgaon won the overall championship for boys. Richa (UCS), Surbhi (GRG Sirsa) and Preeti (UCS) won the individual championship in under-14, under-16 and under-19 category, respectively, for girls. Satish (GRG, Sirsa), Aman (MVN, Faridabad) and Vinay (BBMS Gurgaon) emerged champions among boys in under 14, 16 and 19 categories respectively. UCS Rohtak won the team event in under-19 category for girls, whereas Model School, Rohtak, represented by Ruchika Katyal, Parul and Vrinda finished second in this category. As many as 450 participants from 54 schools vied for the honours in the four-day tourney.

Allahabad High Court lift cricket title

A remarkable all-round performance by Vijay Singh, who scored an unbeaten 49 and claimed two wickets for 18 runs and 54 by Virender Upadhyay helped Allahabad High Court beat Mumbai High Court by 90 runs and lift the 14th All-India Advocates’ Cricket Tournament title at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground on Sunday.

Virender Upadhayay was declared the man of the match. Praveen Pillai got the best bowler award while Ritesh Singh of the Supreme Court was adjudged the man of the series. Kishore Shetty got the best fielder award while Govind Singh was declared the best wicket-keeper.

Mr Justice B. P. Singh, Judge of the Supreme Court of India, gave away the prizes. The final match was witnessed by R. Santhan Krishnan, V. Shekar, Sachin Das, S. Ghosh, Azeem, H. Laskar and organising secretary Aditya Chaudhary.

Scores: Allahabad High Court: 193 for 8 in 40 overs (Virender Upadhayay 54, Vijay Singh 54 no, Praveen Pillai 2 for 31).

Mumbai High Court: 103 all out in 31.1 overs (Asif Arodia 30, Shyam Singh 3 for 15, Vijay Singh 2 for 28, Aditya Shukla 2 for 18).

CRPF sportspersons excel in Asiad

Dr Trinath Mishra, Director-General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), has congratulated the force’s sportspersons for their excellent performance in the recently concluded 14th Asian Games at Busan in South Korea.

Jincy Philip and Mariamma Kuriakose were members of the women’s 4x400m gold winning relay team while Paramjit Singh was a member of the 4x400m men’s relay team, which won the silver medal.

Manpreet Singh and Sunder Singh were members of the kabaddi team which retained the gold medal they had won at Bangkok in 1998.
